In comes 'Ultimate You', I went gung ho and bought all the supplements and followed eating guidelines and exercise as strictly as I could. By the third week I had dropped a pant size and inches everywhere, not to mention sleeping better, increased energy (crazy good energy) and gaining strength everywhere. By the fourth month I had dropped over 30lbs (back into 9/10 pants from 18), was the strongest I had ever been, had abounding energy; I could move!!! My spinal specialist was very impressed with my gained mobility, and regular Dr. was happy that my BMI was at a great level. I can't promote this book enough. The lessons and science about food and hormones have stayed with me, and I feel I have a greater knowledge of how to eat correctly. I honestly feel, if it weren't for this book teaching me and guiding me, I would still be suffering.
The food plan is pretty restrictive in my opinion. This is definitely not one of those "Everything in moderation" type diets. It leans paleo and suggests strict adherence apart from one cheat meal each week. I am a recovering vegetarian that still doesn't like to eat meat, so the meal plan was a bit of a stretch for me. They also recommend a LOT of supplements. I'm totally fine with that, and I actually take a lot of herbs and supplements as a part of my health plan already, but this seemed excessive even to me. There were a lot to take and at different times with different foods.
To be honest, I never strictly followed the plan, so I can't say whether it's effective for health and fitness goals or not, but I think the fact that I read through the book and was overwhelmed enough to not start say something. I'm a pretty active person already and one who eats a fairly healthy diet, so this is not something I'm completely new to.
Two last things: The book is a bit older and as such, a lot of the references in the book lead nowhere. The book references a lot of supplements and fitness tools that are supposedly available through the authors website, but that link is no longer working and those things no longer seem to be available. Also, don't buy the kindle version! The formatting is completely screwed up and the book is not readable in that format. I ended up buying the hard copy after unsuccessfully trying to read the kindle version.
As a Pilates instructor, I have so many frustrated clients that say to me "...I don't understand why I still have this extra weight...I take 2 cardio classes a day, ...barely eat..., and still can't lose this..." It's so refreshing to find that there is finally someone out there that discusses these issues.
To read a book that addresses the relationship between hormones and fat loss is so encouraging and helpful. Not to mention how the discussion that one needs to eat, and what to eat at different times, not starve themselves in order to lose fat. The recipes provided are easy to make and taste good! They're not your typical 'cardboard with a side of sawdust' meals!
Expressing the importance of recovery and regeneration, stretching, and "moving smarter", are so important and often ignored. To read and realize that one doesn't have to "kill" themselves during their fitness regimen is so encouraging.
I personally have this book, and have given and recommended it to many of my clients and friends. If you haven't purchased this book yet, your missing out!
I finally took the step to become a certified personal trainer in the hope of applying all my knowledge to become what I wanted: a healthy, lean and strong individual. So I worked out good and hard and ate good, but still there wasn't a big improvement. the reason? - my metabolism was down. the fix? - ultimate you!
I am now about to start my 4th week and I can already see my body transforming. the secret of this book is great nutritional advise, combined with a workout plan that prepares and strengthens your body while you lose your fat depots. It helps you to bring crazy hormonelevels in balance ( in a very healthy way) and it brought me actually closer to myself.
It is an awesome experience to see your bodys reaction on fueling him with what he really needs. My energy level increased and finally the best about it: I don't have cravings and I do not feel deprived.
I am very thankful for an awesome guide to a great ME.
I am even thinking about making the book mandatory to my female clients who seriously want to lose fat and look their best.
Thank you Dr Brooke & Joe Dowdell for bringing me closer to my ultimate you :)
