Update: 8 months later, no recurrence of red slime and fish are still healthy. Clearly no long term negative effects from this product.
I used this product after getting a lot of red slime on my rock. Use is very simple with the included measuring spoon, although it is a little difficult to get this dissolved in the water beforehand. After putting the mixture into the tank, it developed an interesting yellow color, but that disappeared before too long.
The packaging does say that you can leave carbon, etc in and on. It does warn that protein skimmers can be over-activated, and this is certainly true. Almost instantly, ours started to over-produce, so I recommend you either turn your skimmer off or turn it way down.
Very good results within 24 hours (we did reduce our photo-period as well. You may want to stir your sand bed if you have an issue inside of it. Very good results - I'll be using this again. Absolutely no adverse impacts on livestock.
The stuff does work. However, you must be cautious, because it will cause a bit of havoc in your tank. Your corals will not care for it. Expect some shrinkage. Be sure to supply the tank with some extra oxygen prior and during treatment.. via an air stone. Keep your skimmer going and check it often. It will likely go into overdrive and need to be dumped very often. (You also may need to dial it back) I typically try to do a big water change a couple days after treatment.
However I have tried a lot of different, more natural solutions to eliminate a severe case of red slime in my marine tank. Low nitrates, but the Phosphates of 0.25 were causing the problem. However even after reducing phosphates I didn't seem to be able to get the slime to go away. Removing it by syphoning made the tank look great but then 4 days later, it was back.
I am sure there are plenty of better hobbyists than me that will see this as another case of someone who cannot control his water conditions. Maybe thats true but after 20 years of reef keeping I am not doing too bad, but this problem stumped me.
So, cruising the internet I found some Youtube videos of people showing their tank before-and-after using Ultralife's product. So I gave it a go. It took two goes, one 48 hours after the other. One week later, all the slime has gone. It changed cold (to more of a brown) within 18 hours of the second application. A day or so later it fell of the rock (and clogged up my filter intake before I got to remove it) and since it went it has not returned.
My advice - turn off your skimmer just before you put this in and leave it off for for 24 hours. I would also do a water change after it has all worked.
Very happy with it indeed.

I have used this stuff many times and it gets rid of the Slime algae as advertised. The slime algae does come back for me though even if I don't add any new rock or livestock. Read morePublished 3 days ago by Brian M. Hale
