This album is a must in any Brazilian Bossa Nova collection. Lennie Dale was an american genius who lived in Rio de Janeiro for several years and fall in love with the Brazilian music and the Bossa Nova in particular. Listenning to Lennie Dale sing samba and jazz bossa nova with his strong american accent is absolutely amazing! This was Lennie Dale's first album, a live recording. During this show Lennie Dale proved he was not only a great dancer but also an excellent singer. This album is very rare and usually found only in Japanese releases. I gave it only five stars because I could not give it more. I recommend you to look for his other two albums too. 1) Lennie Dale with the Sambalanco Trio, his second album; and 2) Lennie Dale with the Trio 3-D, his third and last album. The first two are extremely difficult to find. I bought my copies in Tokio. The third, to my knowledge, has never been released in CD format.
I bought the Doxy label vinyl edition. Unlike the picture shown, the Elenco logo does not appear on the LP cover. Doxy is an Italian company which cheaply re-issues "public domain" recordings from unspecified sources. This is a decent pressing on clear vinyl, free of crackles, which sounds like the CD. I wouldn't pay too much for any Doxy LP but mine was actually cheaper than the CD (less than £4 delivered) and, despite the missing"Elenco" logo, the classic artwork is nice to have. This was one of the first ten LPs from Elenco which produced the best Brazilian music from 1963-67, following the worldwide Bossa craze. Early Elenco LPs are instantly recognisable by the great minimalist artwork of Cesar G. Villela, using high contrast black-and-white photos with bold typography and three red dots. Lennie Dale was more noted as a dancer in the US. He appeared on TV as a child, danced on Broadway and toured Europe with Gene Kelly before moving to Brazil. He was also a fine singer and this live "Bossa Show" with “The Bossa Three” sparkles. Recommended.
