Let me start by saying, there's no way I can be objective about Open Mike Eagle. I am a fan. My love for his music apparently knows no bounds. Never does an OME song come on and it not brighten my mood. He has impeccable taste in beats, and a singular, melodic flow that is captivating musically. And his raps are funny, melancholy, thoughtful, full of tangible details and flights of fancy.
That said, this is one of his early records. Not that it is a less enjoyable than Dark Comedy or Hella Personal Film Festival, just a bit more raw, less cohesive perhaps. If you're new to OME, I would definitely steer you to one of those 2 records. But if you already know and dig them, then this is definitely gonna float your boat. There are many great songs contained herein.
I honestly believe he is one of the greatest, most unique musicians of our generation. How he is not more famous I do not understand.
