Editorial Reviews

Review

For an opening offer, Unbeatable should win Razor Wolf Entertainment a steady stream of fans: it's a brilliant concept, gorgeously rendered, and handled with a passionate professionalism that's apparent on every page. To play off the book s tagline a bit: Between the Golden Age and the Deconstruction, between Warren Ellis and Erik Larsen, between superhero kitsch and high-concept genre fare, there is...Unbeatable. --BrokenFrontier.com

I've now read through this book twice now and while I didn't get the big oh, wow! moment I did from the first time I read it, I did get an even more enjoyable experience the second time through. I knew what the big reveal was in this book so reading through the book again allowed me to see the meanings in some of the events in the book. I have to applaud Matthias Wolf for what he did with this book. Its truly amazing and incredibly entertaining. This is a complete story from start to finish. Its not a regular 22-page comic book - its a graphic novel. I'm not sure how many pages this graphic novel has but it has to have around a hundred or so. All of this for the affordable price of $14.95. Now, I tell you all of that because this book doesn't read like a massive OGN or a lengthy trade paperback. There is a lot of story within this book, but the writing is paced well and you flow through the book fairly quickly. There are quite a few moments throughout the whole book. There are quiet a few revelations that build on one another and that alone is what made this book so enjoyable for me. You can see the development as you go, and like I said about reading it a second time through, you get so much more after knowing all of the surprises. --ComicsAddition.com

This is an impressive first effort from Razor Wolf, with high production standards, glossy paper and professional coloring aplenty. Writer Matthias Wolf has a pretty engaging story too. --Ain't it Cool

I loved this graphic novel. I won it in a goodreads giveaway, and I am so glad I did! This was a good story that started off simply with a fun and worthwhile surprise ending. I really enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it! It is a unique take on mythology, and it was a fun read.
First of all, the art is wonderful. The scenes are all well drawn, the page layouts are logical, and the story flows well through the frames. It is easy to see what is happening in the pictures, and the story flows well. I did not have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the art was trying to say, which was nice. I really enjoyed the drawings on the pages where he was learning to take a punch; they illustrated the point quite well.
The backstory of his youth in a small town had many accurate details and was good. I enjoyed all of the historical figures in the fights. All of the different warriors were well drawn, and the fight scenes did not all look the same. The ideas of the different cultures was shown well.
I liked the realism of his time hiding in the cold from the barbarian. Losing digits was a nice touch, and it made it much more realistic. A modern person would not survive such a situation unscathed.
I knew he was being trained the was his father was in the fights, but the ending was a surprise. I fell silly for not seeing all of the subtle and well placed clues (the raven symbol, the father being a door maker, the eye patch, and Luke as Mr. Key, but it was a good surprise! I also missed the obvious alliteration in the name, and I was not sure where the story was going to go after he won the fights. I loved how he used hand-to-hand fighting to beat the swordsman, as it illustrated he would do whatever it took to win.

I was looking for a new graphic novel to read the other day. I made a complete impulse buy when I came across, Unbeatable. I really had no expectations going in, but I was hoping for an interesting plot and some good illustration.

I was completely blown away by what I had stumbled upon. The previews of this book do not do it justice. The art is stunning. It really is like nothing I have seen before. It is rare to find a good origin tale these days. The character development is fantastic and you truly find yourself pulling for the hero. I won't give away the ending (which caught me by complete surprise), but if you are looking for a great plot with twists and turns then this is the book for you.

I grabbed this book off my boyfriend's bookshelf on a whim. I liked it much better than his spiderman & batman stuff. It was a complete story, with cool surprises and lots of hidden meanings. I think the art is amazing. A cool paint-like style mixed with sharp cartoon lines. It's unique. I had a lot of fun discussing the book with my BF afterwards, which is one of the reasons I felt compelled to give "Unbeatable" two thumbs up.

This is hands down the best comic I have read this year! It's refreshing to read a story where the main character is completely developed. The eye-popping artwork, and the story will keep you clue to it's paging from start to finish. This is a must read for any comic book fan.
