I loved how she weaved in snippets of Boone and Sierra’s past into this book so that if you aren’t a fan of the “Rough Riders” series, and by the way, WHY NOT?!?!?!, you could totally catch up on their history. I was so sad when LJ said that the Rough Riders series was over, but after reading this first Rough Riders Legacy book, I can’t wait for the rest!
Not only did she show us the love that these two characters have for each other, she explained things in their past that have made them who they are today. In Gone Country, I was so mad when Boone left, but I totally understand why now. What this poor boy has been through will break your heart and then it will be healed with the love this special couple shares. I really cannot say enough how great they are together. It was funny to watch Sierra’s OCD tendencies go haywire when Boone moves in. I was chuckling when she tripped over laundry but sooo can relate. They are truly each other’s ying and yang.
I was thrilled that LJ gave us a glimpse into the McKay-kateers who consist of Kyler, Anton, Hayden and sometimes Mase. I can’t wait for their stories! Oh and Sierra and Boone’s BFF’s Lu and Raj stole the scenes they were in…hysterical!
All in all, the book was well worth the wait and if you want to dip your toe into the wonderful world of the Rough Riders, read this book. There is no way you will be disappointed! Thank you Lorelei for another gem that I know I will be reading many times again in the future.
Sierra and Boone were friends seven years ago but haven’t seen each other since the night before Boone left for the army. Although they have cousins in common they don’t keep in touch for those seven years; she doesn’t because he broke her heart and he doesn’t because he needs to break away from all he knows in order to overcome all the hard knocks he went through as a child.
Now that he’s going to be in the same town she lives in, he makes it his mission to develop a relationship that they both wanted but were unable to pursue before now. They both are concentrating on their careers but realize very quickly that they can’t do without each other now that they’ve reconnected.
As Ms. James’ writing always is, the dialogue is very realistic and relate-able. Boone and Sierra, along with all the other characters, are well developed. Boone is determined to get what he wants from Sierra but at the same time he is vulnerable in many ways. Sierra is enterprising but yet isn't single-minded.
Boone West is a great hero. He wanted to try and grow to where he felt he could love Sierra the way she deserved.
Sierra had her heart broken by Boone and just wasn't wanting to be hurt again. She tried to refuse his attempts at romance. But she couldn't.
I loved getting to see the younger McKays and am anxiously awaiting their stories. They are great secondary characters for Boone and Sierra's love story.
I love how Lorelei just writes a real love story. As we all know, it's not all perfect all the time. Lorelei writes what I refer to as real, true to life, love stories. No simpering heroine or whiney hero, just two people trying to make their way through this crazy life and finding love along the way.
This is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone. I do highly recommend the Rough Rider series but this can be read and understood without them.
Thank you Lorelei for another great, hot love story.
I was given an ARC of Unbreak My Heart for an honest review.
