I once read that the most beautiful stories are often the ones that are the hardest to tell. What Lexi Ryan created when writing "Unbreak Me" is true writing artistry at it's best, but it's surprising. I always thought Lexi was more of a literary party friend. She consistently writes novels that were fun, flirty, and steamy. With this novel, she shifts gears and tells a story full of heart break, secrets, strength, redemption, and hubris. Every page moved the story forward and was enriched with emotions so full, it could make your heart break. The story is beautifully written, and the characters so marvelously flawed that you get lost in the telling. If you are a fan of Jodi Picoult, you will LOVE this story. Even if you aren't a fan, you will STILL love this story. It takes a truly talented writer to make the audience invest in truly flawed characters, over look the flaws, and see the beauty of their actions, and Lexi Ryan accomplishes it all.

"I was pregnant, and I was getting married in two days, and I had no idea when my life had gotten so completely out of control."

A year ago in May, Margaret "Maggie" Marie Thompson was supposed to marry William "Will" Bailey but she canceled the wedding and skipped town with a heart full of secrets and lies. Fast-forward a year later she's walking down the aisle again, approaching the very same man she left standing at the altar, but she isn't the bride; her ex-fiancé is marrying her sister, Krystal.

"Black sheep. College dropout. Whore. Home-wrecking slut."

"At fifteen, I fell from my father's grace. He would tell me I was a harlot sent by the devil to destroy men."

21-year-old Maggie is messed up and everyone in the small town, New Hope, knows so since the scandal involving her and the married county sheriff leaked and became the hottest gossip.

While she was away, she could be anyone she wanted to be, but now that she's come home to be the bridesmaid at her sister's wedding, her past is back to haunt her...

"Toby. Ethan. Will."

"My Will, I catch myself thinking. Which isn't fair, and I know that, but I keep remembering his arms wrapped around me and his breath in my hair as he whispered, "If you're broken, I'll fix you.""

And as if she's got no shortage of men troubles, Maggie encounters a sexy stranger at the wedding reception.

"Asher is sex on a stick. I bet he even has a few tats under that pressed dress shirt. He's a big guy, not just tall, but large, solid, filling his black oxford in a way that makes it difficult to keep from staring.

Hell, staring is inevitable. Not drooling is difficult.

Damaged characters, rockstar hottie, family issues, inner turmoil = good plot. Liked the deeper societal issues that Lexi Ryan tackled here. Didn't love the execution of it all. It was pretty good. I enjoyed the read, but I wasn't compelled and addicted. One bonus: there's no cliffhanger.

Let me preface this by stating I do love books in which the heroine is not just a sweet small town girl that is so far from reality that it is impossible to see her as anything else than just a doll. This is not the case for this book at all. She is very flawed here, we see a darker character emerge in Maggie. The book does a great job of hiding what has made Maggie so strong. But at some point, its the supporting characters that fall short. SPOILERS AHEAD--While a small town can be very conservative and short sighted, this book just is ridiculous. This girl is basically called a slut the whole time, everyone treats her terribly, including her own family, and while she does have some fault in that perception, it is hard to understand the type of people that would see a teenage girl getting raped by a grown man as a slut! I just can't phantom that a small town would react like this. Even her own family blames her, and no one tries to help? How about calling the police? Anyone statutory rape. This is what killed the book for me. While I did like the writing, I can understand that tragedy can break a person, but the tragedy here is that no one helps this girl, and instead they punish her. Honestly, with the back stories that didn't make any sense. At some point, you just give up and hope the end comes soon.

4.5 Stars

This book draws your attention in from the very first page. This is a good book. Not your average girl saves the bad boy book. More the girl gets saved by the bad boy!

Maggie has been living in hell since she was fifteen. She kept spiraling downhill, because she thought it was best to keep everything secret. If she kept it to herself she wasn't hurting anyone, but herself. She needs to learn to forgive herself and believe she is more than what everyone thinks of her. Can she believe she is worth being loved? Can she move past being in unhealthy relationships?

Asher is a rock star who is trying to stay out of trouble. He decides to go to his house in the small town of New Hope. What he doesn't expect is to find the beautiful red head he helped a year ago. He recognizes a lost soul in her. He treats her with the respect she deserves even though she doesn't think she is worth it. He wants to show her that she is worth being loved. Will he be able to be that man for her?

The journey Maggie takes in this book is heartbreaking. You go through what she had to experience as a teenager and what made her believe she is unworthy of love. Do you believe that the more someone tells you something you start to believe it about yourself? Maggie did and through this book can she learn that she is worth love? This was a very well written book. I love it and give it 4.5 Stars!
