The Unbreakable Sword takes you into a world of mythology that you haven’t seen before, with a romantic twist that, for once, does not end in a tragedy.
The author is knowledgeable about the subject, which makes for an easy read on some of the most intertwined stories about the Gods.
I would not recommend this book not only because of the language, but also because the repetitive nature of this phrase became obnoxious in itself. I think the writer has more talent than this failing.
Since I read these books one by one, it only makes sense to review them that way. The reviews follow. Individually they're all at least 4 stars. Collectively as a set and with the savings in cost? I think that deserves the fifth star.
Anyway, here are those reviews:
Shadows of the Gods
I love sci fi and fantasy books that have some real originality. This one delivers originality in spades. A wonderful urban fantasy mashup of multiple mythologies with a great kick-a** heroine and really wonderful hero to go with? Well developed supporting characters drawn well enough to deserve their own books? A rockin' plot that's a fun ride to travel down? I'm there, and I'm most certainly enjoying it.
Cities of the Gods
What a great series. It has everything I'm looking for. Originality, in its very new urban fantasy tale on the confrontation between living mythologies (and not just the typical Greco-Roman, or even just the Norse or Irish, but wide reaching globally; Finnish, Aztec, Sumerian, etc). Very strong leading characters who continue to grow and develop (and even have the "Buffy-like" snarky banter I so enjoy). A wonderful supporting cast. Then, in this new series addition, add in an action packed plot full of twists and turns. All in all a great package, tied up in a bow of excellent writing. What fun! Highly recommended.
Treasures of the Gods
This series should have a Surgeon General's Warning on its cover: "Warning! Highly Addictive Substance. Open at your own risk." SM Schmitz has done it once again with her fantastic multi-mythology face off The Unbrrakable Sword series. This entry, Treasures of the Gods, is so good that (warning to all who can't stand them) even the cliffhanger ending isn't keeping me from lovin' it. Strong and highly original plot, strong lead and supporting characters, strong adventure (with just the right amount of a romantic element) and strong writing. What more (other than no cliffhanger) could you ask for?
Strongly recommended (subtract 1-2 stars fir the cliffhanger if you truly can't stand them; perhaps add a star if they don't bother you at all).
Battles of the Gods
I write a ton of reviews and I really (really) avoid giving five stars. I might give one in 30 or 40 at best, but I can't avoid it here. Perhaps I'm influenced a bit by just how enjoyable this series was, but this book was too much the perfect HEA ending that I so hoped to get. (I'm actually troubled by this now, as I was so looking forward to getting a good definitive HEA but I'm already starting from "series-withdrawal". I do hope SM Schmitz at least adds in a few series related side stories ...)
SM Schmitz knows how to develope and constantly grow great characters, how to do sassy/snarky conversation (what I refer to as "Buffy-talk" which, from me, is high praise), romance and adventure like few others. All of that has been found in this series and abundantly found in this book.
Go, rush to get this book if you've been following along in the series so far. If you're new to the series then I strongly recommend starting with book 1 and reading the others in order prior to this one, as that will make the impact of this one (which you will end up getting, trust me, as this series is far too addictive) all the greater.
Highly recommended? That's a woeful understatement.
That was a great journey full of surprises and mysteries. I really enjoyed Selena's and Cameron's struggle! Nothing was too easy on their way.
I loved to get to know gods and their descendants from less known pantheons.
Ideal for teenagers!
Cities of the Gods
Great second book in the series!
Characters still are full, funny and witty. I was really glad that Selena and Cameron were more like adults in important moments.
Nothing is easy in this series for them - in the world full of gods, creatures, and demigods - whom can they trust? Their own pantheon?
To check it out and if something will happen between them.
I promise a great read full of surprises and turns!
Treasures of the Gods
What will happen when being a god is not that cool and something is happening to you? Cameron is dealing with being the most powerful god and when he lost control things are not that nice...
Selena is trying to figure out how to feel about him, as she sometimes can't see the one she loves.
Add to it constantly running, love, Ukko (who is more dimensional in this book), secrets, prophecy, and love from the past!
Can't wait for book 4!
Battle of the Gods
WoW, I loved this end of the series - that closed this part but also opened a way to open a new one!
The time has come - we need to deal with Huitzilopochtli and his minions, add to it looking for Anita, Naud's heir and also Selena's preventing of Cameron's world destruction.
What will happen when things will go wrong and not every enemy will still be one?
Join Cameron and Selena in this exciting last installment of The Unbreakable Sword!
