I'm so glad I read these back to back, the end of part one left me reeling and I needed to jump right back into the story.
So we have King still trying to do the right thing and Elena wanting out of a situation she new dreamed would be her life.
King and Elena are hooking up whenever they get the chance even though it could get the both killed. King is hiding Elena from the club which is a huge no no and Elena is hiding something even bigger from Carlos.
Unbreakable takes us on a much deeper emotional journey as far as Elena is concerned, King I wasn't sure about. I still love the man but once the truth of Elena's full betrayal came to light and he couldn't get his s*** together and man up I wasn't so sure about him.
In the end I got the story I needed, the closure I needed and the ending I hoped for.
That is after I got over Elena's infidelity.
Hate cheating but Max Henry made me feel sorry for and even sorta like the cheating hussy by the end of this one. Kudos!!
I read this book with teary eyes. I never thought that the love story of these tragic lovers affected me to the point that I had to stop reading, take a deep breath and yet my eyes filled with tears just thinking about them again.
The story of King and Elena is difficult, cruel, raw, passionate and deeply emotional. "Unrequited" was a rollercoaster of different emotions, but this book... I barely survived!
"It’s only when I lie beside her as she smiles that I realize the best part of making love to her is the afterglow. That sated look, the ease in her smile, all the tiny things that tell me she’s happy, loved, and feeling like a queen. The intimacy of knowing her high comes from my touch, that she hungers for me as badly as I do her— it’s immeasurable. Nothing can compare to this little slice of heaven right now."
If there's something I really, really loved was the connection of these characters. The pull they feel for each other is not erased by anything, not distance or years, it's a constant that keeps their hearts intertwined, is something brutally beautiful.
Both go through really tough moments, but those, believe me at the end of the book make sense.
At one point my heart was with King, and the next was with Elena, I felt that I went from one emotion to another in a matter of chapters. As I said their story isn't easy, even I felt chills, because it's cruel and heartbreaking. Elena is a survivor, victim of selfish circumstances and King is a man caught between loyalty and love... they don't seem to find the right time.
But it's there, right there, where everything around them starts to rotate and change, because when they are together, God! is an explosion of love, adoration, passion and respect; and that made me think "I want that kind of love."
Elena is a woman who not only survives the cruelty of the world but has an infinite capacity to love, her love for King it's out of this world... and King's love? brutal. carnal. explosive with every fiber of his being.
They find their own redemption in the end, they mature, and this is the kind of book where you realize why the writer took her sweet time to write their story; you understand why they took so long to get their happy ending, King and Elena made me live a beautiful dark love story, I think if you read carefully, and is a very personal opinion, they always live their love in the gray areas of the book, in small glimpses of light and that's very original and wonderful.
When a book gets you that way, it's worth every sigh and tear you felt. Max wrote twists that I didn't expect, the characters made decisions that at times I couldn't understand and went through situations that gave it a touch of reality to the story.
"Years apart could only dampen the fire , but when two volatile elements are so close together, the result is explosive."
Max Henry did a remarkable job with this story, the way she conveys the feelings and emotions of the characters is certainly one of the qualities that highlight her style as a indie writer of dark romance.
I look forward to the next book in this series, I'm a fan for sure :)
“However you feel,” I murmur, “I never stopped loving you. Not one single day. Not even for an hour. You were it for me. You still are.”
Now when it ends I am the frustrated one because I need more of these two and will definitely be reading on because of that reason.
Thank you Max Henry for this incredible read <3
