[author:Margaret Lynette Sharp|5753963][book:Uncertain Love|29070698]
A friend recommended this novella to me and I'm very glad I bought the eBook. It has often been said not to judge a book by its cover and I agree. However, "Uncertain Love" has the perfect cover to go with the story of a young 21-year old girl who is uncertain of her feelings for Kevin - someone she's known for a long time. His family is status conscious and wealthy. This fact in itself makes her feel unworthy of him - just being a legal secretary - because his family are architects and more.
At a turning-point in her life, she goes for a milkshake with her school friend, Sally and at Sam's Milk bar, she meets Todd. They hit it off and she finds it easy to talk to him. They have much in common - their love of music and singing - for example. Where will their friendship go? The plot weaves a masterful tale of uncertainty, highs and lows in Amanda's life and a nagging mother, which leads to a few life-changing decisions.
The author has a way with words, for example, "A tsunami of self-consciousness overwhelmed me ..." and her short descriptions of the beach, the calming effect of the sun, rustling wind in a woodland, help to set the scene for good, believable dialogue. I cannot tell you the end, but I thoroughly enjoyed this short novella and sighed with contentment when I finished reading it. If you're looking for a clean, romantic read and a respite in your busy schedule, this novella is for you!
But an unexpected shock marred the day – and when Kevin suggested she meet his family for dinner the following Thursday evening, she felt unsure. She knew Kevin’s family were well to do – much higher in the food chain than she or her family were. What would happen when Amanda met Kevin’s mother? Her nerves were on high alert – was she courageous enough to follow her heart? And could she trust in the words of a stranger?
I thoroughly enjoyed Uncertain Love, the latest novella by Aussie author Margaret Lynette Sharp. It is a beautifully told sweet rendition of love in the 1950s and shows the sometimes deep uncertainty of following your heart. A quick and easy read which I highly recommend.
She & Kevin (Amanda’s BF) were seeing each other quite reguraly.
Amanda’s parents approved of him whole-heartedly.
Todd (car salesman, bandleader) & Amanda went out to discuss her relationship with Kevin.
Kevin invited Amanda over for dinner to meet his side of the family.
Those in attendance were: Clive (husband/ Kevin’s dad), Claudia (wife/ Kevin’s mom), James (Kevin’s brother, Lorraine’s husband), Lorraine (30+, James’ wife, Sydney University), William Hodge (Clive’s business partner) Elizabeth (William’s 2nd. wife, stepmother) & Melanie (20, William’s daughter).
Will Kevin & Amanda fall in love?
What about Todd Grant?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written down-under romance (novella) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great down-under romance movie, better yet a mini TV series. To be continued? A very easy rating of 5 stars.
