For fans of the series, you still get your new version of Nate's Theme, and this is probably the best version of it yet. However, this score brings out the most emotion and excitement out of all of the scores in the series. Every single track is great, and the change from a slower pace to a faster pace in many tracks is simply awesome. The first disc consists of the main score from the game, mostly the single player tracks. The first disc runs 72 minutes and 18 seconds, which is pretty lengthy on its own. On top of this though, the CD version of Uncharted 3's soundtrack offers a bonus disc with eighteen additional tracks. Some of these are from the singleplayer, but many are bonus tracks featured in the game or they are Powerplay tracks in multiplayer. If these don't interest you much, you don't necessarily need to buy this CD, you can just get a digital version, however, this adds a whopping extra 48 minutes and 11 seconds to the soundtrack, making the entire package run at two hours and twenty nine seconds.
The CD is also a limited edition CD (if you read on the back of the case, it is one of 3000 units) so Uncharted fans will definitely want to check this out. The score is incredible, without going into too much detail, and it not only compliments the action in the already amazing game, but listening to it by itself also adds a whole other dimension to the score, which makes it even more amazing. If you are an Uncharted fan, don't hesitate to pick this up.
THE GOOD:
Just as the Uncharted 2 score was a drastic departure from the first score, Uncharted 3 takes the setting of its adventure just as seriously. The tracks first disc follows the game's story, more or less, and the second disc fills in the missing tracks, due likely to the limitations of disc space. The middle eastern feel of the album really sets it apart, and definitely makes it truly unique.
THE BAD:
The remixes were probably the only weakness in my opinion. They were no where near as good as the ones from the first two scores. It would have been nice to have included the trailer music/reading in there somewhere too; which isn't really even a knock on the album, just something I would have liked. And more of the amazing vocals would have been nice also.
OVERALL:
Other than that I thoroughly enjoy listening to this score and can't help but get the tunes stuck in my head when I'm at the beach and the wind is blowing sand around!
Disc 2 is exclusive to this version and contains not only additional tracks from the singleplayer story, but also remixes of some of the tracks as they're used for multiplayer powerplays. I do miss the exclusive remix track that Uncharted 1 and 2's respective soundtracks had, but since this one basically has three remix tracks, I can't really complain.
I was a bit dismayed to learn that this is a limited run--even though I now own one of the 3,000 copies, I wish the tracks on the second disc would at least be made available to people who buy the mp3 album. For such an anticipated and publicized game, limiting the number of complete soundtracks seems like an odd decision.
Anyway, if you're a fan of Uncharted or even just soundtracks in general, I'd easily recommend this one.
My only complaint is that I wish Nate's Theme was actually a longer song. Leaves me wanting more!

Greg Edmonson has done it again. The entire score is familiarly Uncharted with its own twist, taking inspirations from tunes of Arabian deserts, making itself a rival with the score of The Mummy. It is epic, gripping, emotional and thought-provoking. The listening experience alone is an adventure with its own picture. Just as the liner notes says, the music is an important part of the game, where it breaks the barrier between the gamer and the game. With this, I have much gratitude to the composer, who's put so much into what any other movie would have, but for a game.
The score is presented in not one, but two discs, adding another 18 tracks from the game, more so than what any other versions offer. La La Lands is known to release their versions of well-known soundtracks at an expanded medium, where as a typical commercial soundtrack only has key/most-memorable selections in one disc, omitting other tunes heard in films. Uncharted 3 couldn't have deserved a better treatment, as there are many tunes in this game we don't want to miss out. That said, it's nice to see the ending tune present in this release, which is where Uncharted 2's OST flawed. No soundtrack is complete without its ending and they certainly took note of it this time.
As said before, we have liner notes spread throughout the entire booklet in quality pages accompanied by rich screen shots from the game. It's a nice read as you listen through, giving you an insight of the inspiration and magic that took place in the making of the score. The only I have gripe is the track listing order, as some of the tracks from the 2nd disc happens between the 1st and vice versa. Then again, the way it's presented grants an epic listening experience so I advise chronological listeners to give it a chance and listen in the order given.
Uncharted 3 is without a doubt a video game that stands out in today's generation. While it wasn't as big or grand as the sequel before it, the score alone comes at its own right, making this a necessary, if not only worthy, purchase for both fans and the general listeners out there. Limited to 3000 copies, pick it up before this release becomes a hard-to-find fortune.
Note: I also happen to own the Collector's edition of the guidebook, which includes 4 tracks I don't see in this release. I haven't done comparisons yet and they could be same tracks with different names though I can't be sure. I'll check back here when I do.
