When I actually got the package, I was in a hurry to get them in the bin and hydrated immediately. They did not look ill at all but the package, box, bedding and all, weighed no more than 1/2lb. Most of the volume, and at least 1/3 of the weight that was in the mass of worms was actually bedding. Now, I've read a bit about worms and I know that you can have 1/2lb of worms that number in the thousands even if they are mature and will rapidly put on weight when given space and food, but this was not the case. Relatively few of them had the band on them that indicates that they are mature. This negates the effect of a small but mature Eisenia Fotida reaching full adult size shortly after being added to a large bin with plenty of food.
This product description claims both that "Red Wiggler, Eisenia Fotida, worms are approximately 900-1000 to the pound." and also "This is a pack with Two (2) pounds of worms."
The included paper made the claim that "The worms can lose up to 70% of their body mass and weight during a 3-5 day trip through the mail.Read more ›
He claims to send you 2 pounds of worms and when you get them they are dehydrated by as much as 50% as he puts it. you need a couple of weeks for the worms to perk up and then they would weigh the same as they did when he shipped them out. The weight of the worms is 1 pound with packing material so I say mr Jim is full of bs. There are up to a 1000 redworms per pound and Uncle jim swears that he has sent 2 pounds. On multiple occasions I would count the so called 2 pound order and come up with 900 to 1000 which is the equivalent of a pound and they are mixed. Also if UNcle jim was truthful then 2 pounds of worms shrinking in weight to 50% would all be dead after shipment because the worms cannot withstand that much moisture loss which in this case would be more than 50%. Uncle Jim is deceitful and lies in hopes that you the customers are ignorant. MR Jim is in it for the money and not for you. Uncle jims worm farm has reviews far worse all over the internet. He fails most of the time to respond to you..Read more ›
See the posted picture of the weight and quality of the worms.
Also, there were no where near 2,000 worms and half of them were dead. The surviving ones are small and sickly looking. It seems like this company is really a hit or miss when it comes to quality control. Unfortunately, I waited a week for them to even ship them and still received a dud. Requesting refund.
UPDATE: Finally got a hold of seller who promised to immediately ship out the correct order. Did not ship when they said they were going to and it took another 2 weeks to get the proper amount. Did not respond to request for tracking number. Not worth the hassle and month wait to finally get what I ordered.
The worms delivered in the second shipment were in a lot better shape than the original worms. Still not worth it though.
