My 7-year-old is a star wars nut and received this light as a birthday gift. He was disappointed with it's size - note the product spec says 27" long and the lit end is about 20" - but loves it anyway. It's a little bright for a nightlight, but not bright enough to be a room light. It does turn itself off after 15 minutes, and you can turn it both on and off with the remote. The "educational" value is almost nil. The instructions include a couple paragraphs about what LEDs are and what gives them different colors. The product description about "construct a light saber" is crap. You snap in an electronics assembly, install batteries, and snap together a 2-piece shell.

In some of the other reviews (for the other colors) there are gripes about the fact this is battery powered. It is a bit annoying, but it is an LED that only runs 15 minutes at a time. A set of 3 AAA batteries should last a couple months being run every day under those conditions. The fact that it's battery powered also lets you mount it anywhere you want, and you don't have a wire dangling from it. Even so, rather than bother with batteries, I rooted through a box of old electronics in the garage and found a 4.5V AC adapter like this one 4.5 VDC 500mA AC Adapter. I chopped the plug off the end of the adapter, ran the wires through the hole in the bottom of the saber intended for securing the battery pack with a screw, and soldered the wires to the springs in the saber handle that are intended to contact the battery pack. If you do this pay close attention to the positive and negative connections. You can deduce which spring is poitive and which is negative by looking at how the battery pack would contact the springs. You don't want to hook up the power wires backwards.

I got 3 on my wall "Red, Green, Blue" between my posters. I LOVE these lightsabers. The life it brings to my wall is incredible... My Star Wars fandom started when I was a kid in the 80s, and it's never gone away. With the new movies coming out I decided to pick these up to add to my studio look, and man oh man they look great.

I purchased this and the Darth Vader model and have them set up together, see GIF attached.
I'm very happy with the appearance but the remote is somewhat frustrating as another reviewer said, it only works for a period of time and then you must use the manual buttons which resets the remote.
I would also like to see a plugin option but the wires would be pretty ugly.

These Light Saber night lights are great for the price and we have now got 5 of them off Amazon. They sound cool, they look cool, and although they shut off after 15 minutes it is nice not having to replace the batteries all the time! They are smaller scale than the extendable lightsabers you would buy for your kids but that is actually nice when going to mount them on the wall.

This was one of my favorite gifts that I gave this Christmas! It uses static to move these foil shapes through the air using "the force" I got these for a 7 year old boy and he loved it. Took a little practice but by the end of the night he was walking all around the house commanding these shapes like a real Jedi!! I want to buy this for someone else I just don't know who! I guess it could make a great toy for any age!

My son was so excited to get these. (we ordered 2) He could hardly stand the long 2 day wait until they arrived. He had a great time putting them together all by himself & had it done in no time. I will say he was a bit disappointed because they were much smaller than he thought they were going to be but they look great on the wall anyway. I am only giving 3 stars because we were all very disappointed that the only color it has is green. It clearly states in the seller's description as well as the manufacture's "Eight color effects". After reading the packaging better, we learned that there is a "collection" of lightsabers available from this manufacturer. One of the OTHER lights actually changes colors but not this one. It sure seems misleading to me.

We tried 2 different Luke Lightsabers. There seems to be an issue with a circuit or something.
Never worked or went on like the Obi-Wan blue one we have. Doesn't stay on or work with the remote either.
Frustrating!

We use these on a regular basis - got both this one and the Luke Skywalker one. Daddy installed it around our room, and with some adhesive Velcro strips, we put the remote controls by the headboard of our son's bed for ease of use in the middle of the night. Highly recommended.
