Whenever someone wants a recommendation on a fantastic BDSM Romance, Lexi Blake is the first author I think of. All of my friends always come back to me and say they want more Lexi Blake and more of the Masters and Mercenaries. The characters in this series jump off the page and in to your hearts, and when the story ends you become sad because you don't want to leave their world. Lexi creates such strong, well-developed characters that convey such depth and such emotion that you are feeling the same things that they do, which makes the stories and characters so real, and so hard to pull away from.

Unconditional is a Masters and Mercenaries novella, but it packs the same punch as a regular full length novel. I loved how one of the first interactions in Unconditional involved one of my favorite Doms of all time, Mr. Ian Taggert. That man has absolutely no filter, and says whatever he wants, no matter who you are. It is ****ing hilarious. If you have kept up with the series you know how beautiful it is to have him back, and happy now that his better half has come back to him. He says marriages and babies make him want to vomit, but I bet Lexi will throw some of those obstacles his way in future stories, and I CAN'T WAIT to see Master Ian Taggert handle a baby.

"How would he do it?"

"Do what?"

"Teach me I'm worthy when I'm so damn sure I'm not."

Unconditional shines the spotlight on two newer characters Keith and Ashley. Keith is a gorgeous, wealthy experienced Dom who is just looking to join Sanctum and blow off some steam with a sub. He wants nothing more, no relationship, no contact outside of the club. Ashley is an employee at the club who doesn't believe in orgasms. She thinks they are a myth, and she never thought of herself as a submissive.

I don't usually give novellas 5 stars. It can be hard to show character growth within the confines of the medium. Lexi Blake has no problem with that in Unconditional. Both Keith and Ashley show a lot of personal growth within the pages of this awesome little novella.

Very Brief Synopsis - We met Keith and Ashley in Sanctum, another novella in the Masters and Mercenaries series. Ashley comes to work at Sanctum, the BDSM club owned and operated by various characters we've met in the first 6 novels, when they aren't working for McKay and Taggert Security. Ian Taggert (aka Mephistopheles in Leather) needs a sub to see if Keith is worthy of Master status at Sanctum, and maneuvers Ashley into accepting the task. Ashley and Keith meet under carefully contracted terms, but soon, their attraction for each other grows. Keith has some secrets he is unwilling to share, but is very clear he is far from husband material. Ashley has some issues of her own, which come to light when a man is caught stalking her.

What worked - Oh good grief, everything worked here. I LOVED this novella. Keith is so alpha, so in control. Ryan(from Sanctum and Ashley's brother-in-law) calls him compartmentalized, and it is an accurate description. Keith sees Ashley at the club. Period. never mind that he calls her to ask about her classes, or what she had for lunch, or to see how her day is going. In Keith's mind, Ashley belongs in the Sanctum compartment. When he finds out Ashley is being harassed by her baby's grandparents, he is willing to help her, but not provide comfort outside of the club. He has big, big, BIG ghosts haunting him from his past, and is so brittle with his pain...I expected him to shatter with it. And the end, which I will not spoil for anyone, made me cry.

I love the Masters and Mercenaries series and "Unconditional" is a great addition. Keith Langston and Ashley Paxon come together through the inevitable meddling of Ian Taggert. They each have some baggage they have to deal with before they can find their way to each other. Keith has some sorrow in his past that keeps him from moving forward and Ashley has a child who she is determined to put first. Together Keith and Ashley overcome their pasts to find a future. This book is is just the right length when you have to have something amazing to read but you don't have time for one of Lexi Blake's longer novels. A book with not only hot, loving sex and a happy ending. Of course, characters from previous books in this series make appearances and I always love that. If you haven't read this series, better get busy - the next book comes out in mid February 2014 and you'll definitely want to be ready for it.

Unconditional was AMAZING! It will have you laughing one minute and crying the next! Nothing beats the many thoughts that come out of Ian’s mouth. But it’s how his wife can bring the big, mean Dom to his knee’s and put him in his place that will have you laughing out loud!

Unconditional is the story of Ashley and Keith. Ashley is trying to gain self confidence and realize that she is worthy of so much more than the raw deal she’s been dealt. Keith is running from his past and doesn’t let anyone get close enough to learn his secret. He is looking for a casual, no strings attached, D/s relationship. They are two people who need each other more than they realize; to understand that their past does not define them. Their individual stories are heartbreaking but together, their story is romantic and HOT!

Ashley and Keith’s relationship does not progress the way you think. As a Mom, I absolutely loved the ending! It was the most perfect, touching, emotional and romantic way for them to find their HEA! This is what I love about Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series and what keeps me coming back ~ Her stories have something for everyone, suspense, romance and hot sex. You get caught up in the lives of an unconventional family who love and take care of each other unconditionally.
