Editorial Reviews

"This thrilling story is a dramatic entanglement of mystery, deception and teen romance.  The action flows like a brisk mountain stream interspersed with rapids, holding suspense to last page."
Kirkus Review

"Grace is a spunky, independent, nature girl who doesn't need a boy to save her. With wilderness survival, a juicy love triangle, and more twists and turns than a roller coaster, this fast-paced novel had me holding my breath until the very last page--and still begging for more!" - Kimberly Derting (author of the popular Body Finder series)

Johannes has done a marvelous job of creating a suspense-filled mystery with surprises that keep you guessing all the way to the end. Untraceable is a thoroughly engrossing and riveting page-turner."- IndieReader

"This story is action-packed and very funny in some parts. There is even a bit of young romance...There is a strong message of wildlife conservation, so it is somewhat educational in that aspect." Reviewed by Molly Burkemper for "Readers Favorite"

2009 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Quarterfinalist (under the original title of Grace Under Fire) - Judges Reviews:

"This story starts out with a reads like the young woman were narrating it to a friend, and had the ring of a young person's style and intensity. Original in premise and style, and good use of background...Good story!" - Sue Grafton, author of bestselling Kinsey Milhone series

"This murder mystery .. moves along at a brisk clip, and it feels as if we already have some important clues. We look forward to seeing what's in the case file and what Grace and her motorbike, Luci, will be up to next." - Sue Monk Kidd, author of Secret Life of Bees

From the Author

Dear Reader,
When I started this series, I had no idea if it would ever see the light of day. I needed to continue publishing books in the Nature of Grace series with the hope of making a difference in this world.

Uncontrollable touches on the plight of the red wolf. These animals once roamed freely, but are now on the verge of being extinct with the majority being kept in captivity. The idea came to me when I read an article about the gray wolves being released in Colorado. However, no matter how many they released, the numbers in Colorado remained low. I always wondered if people were silently killing the wolves for unknown reasons.

Uncontrollable is my way of shedding a ray of light on a problem we don't know much about. The plight of the red wolf is very real. They have a hard time living in the wild, yet I can't imagine a world where they always have to live in captivity.

With this book, I hope to create awareness around their story and struggles.

Just as in Untraceable, this book is still thrilling and mysterious with a strong girl character, two hot boys, and some great kissing. :) But in the end, my purpose is to inform.

I hope you like reading Uncontrollable as much as the first. If you find yourself bothered or angry with some of the abuse to wolves in this book, please see my "Call to Action" section so you can find your own way of making a difference.

Finally, I have a favor. As you know it is very hard to stand out and get reviews. The reader now has the power to help a book stand out! I would really appreciate hearing from you and seeing your reviews - whether you loved it or hated it! :)

Thank you for spending your time reading Untraceable! It means a lot to me because I know there are a million or more books you could have chosen!

I would love to hear from you anytime! I make an effort to respond to reader and blogger email timely. After all, you are the reason I write! you can email me at or visit me at my web site! :)

Uncontrollable picks up about 3 months after Untraceable left off. If you haven't read Untraceable yet, you will really want to before your read Uncontrollable. Grace is still recovering from her summer tragedy. After her father disappeared, she was determined to find him, and in the process met an awesome hottie named Mo, was attacked by a poacher named Al, and infiltrated a bear poaching criminal ring. She did find her father, who everyone thought was dead, only to lose him again. To add to the tragedy, she was also told that her new love, Mo, was killed in the firefight that took place. Her best friend Wyn was so upset with her for lying to him that he refused to speak to her, and now 3 months later, he still doesn't acknowledge her presence. He is just all hung up on his girlfriend Skyler, who hangs all over him, literally. To top it off, the whole town acts like they blame Grace and are mad at her, instead of being proud of her for helping to bust up the poaching operation. Forced to sit behind Wyn and Skyler in class and suppress her gag reflex, Grace is excited to see her friend Agent Sweeny from the US Fish and Wildlife Service enter and begin to tell the class about a new program for endangered wolves called The Red Wolfe Reintroduction Program. Agent Sweeny offers anyone in the class who wants to, the chance to participate. Much to everyone's surprise, considering everything she had been through, Grace was the first to volunteer. She knew it was time to get back into the woods. She was, after all, her father's daughter.

Needles to say, this got Wyn's attention, and he also volunteered, then Skyler volunteered as well, along with three other from the class.

S.R. Johannes does it again (minus my ridiculous crying). I fell in love with Untraceable and it broke my heart at the same time. I actually can't believe it's already been ten months since I read the first book. I want to thank the author for not only asking me to be a part of her blog tour but also sending me a copy of the second book to read and review. I've been so busy with books to read that I've finally gotten a moment to read this book. I finished it in less than 12 hours (including a few hours of sleep and watching the Voice in there) - so that just shows you how addicting the book is. I fell in love with her characters, her world and the wildlife in the woods of North Carolina. Was curious as to how she would get Grace back out in to the wilderness after that happened to her in the first book. She is a girl of nature and there's no keeping someone away from something they're so passionate about. It took some time but she went back out there and this time instead of protecting bears, it's the near extinct red wolves that she's out to protect. I have a soft spot for wolves so I was eager to dive right in.

Grace is still hurting from many losses in Untraceable and the fact that her best friend (and ex-boyfriend), Wyn, swore he'd never talk to her at the end of Untraceable and he's been sticking to his word. He's all over Skyler and ignores that Grace even exists. Grace is jealous and hurt. She needed him more than ever these past few months and he pretends like she's not even there. You can't help but want to do two things. First being giving a Grace a huge hug and telling her you're there for her and second, knocking Wyn upside his head. He needs a swift hit to the head to set him straight.

Let's start with the cover : It's Beautiful! and perfectly fits with the series! Vania has done a wonderful job on both this one and the Untraceable cover I heart them so much :)

S.R. Johannes does an amazing job of weaving this story into something incredible ... Where I loved the first one for the same reason, this story steps it up a notch. I love how she makes it so that you questions EVERYONE! I never know who is good and who is not. When I come to the conclusion that one thing is going on... BAM I'm left with your mouth hanging open and thinking that was masterful!

Grace : She is still reeling with everything she has lost... but she is trying to get back into her life. She throws herself into a project thinking this will help. There is nothing about her that I don't like. She is a strong female character with flaws and all. She is a quick thinker and protects her friends/family with all she has.

The other characters are amazing all in their own ways. None of them are "flat" they are each well developed throughout the story.

I went as I was reading feeling all the things that Grace did... from her overwhelming sadness from having lost 2 men that she loved to all the terrifying things she has to deal with. I cannot tell you much more without giving all the things away, and you know I just won't do that :)

GET THIS if you Love/like Romance, Intrigue, suspense or adventure... roll them all together and you have

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I should probably let you know I have Sequelaphobia. Trust me when I say this, but it is bad! Half the time I have a huge giant let down, like I love the first book and then I read the second and it's like, AAAAHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It's tough, so going into this book I was prepared for the tears and intense heartbreak, but instead I got one of my favorite books for 2012!
Grace is feeling lost without her dad and losing Mo was a lot to handle. As if that weren't bad enough, Wyn is beng a total JERK for the first quarter of the book. So then in her science class, in comes Agent Sweeney from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. He come to talk about the Red Wolf Project and askes for volenteers, So naturally Grace joins. But as luck would have it, Wyn and his totally evil girlfriend Skylar, join her team too. So she has to deal with them being Jerks to her and basically mocking her. Then they start to find dead wolves, which adds to the mystery! There is way more going on then meets the eye!
So let me break it down:
1. Grace continues to be awesome and inspiring! FYI she's my all time favorite character!!
2. There is a whole bunch of nature. I love all things Naturey so obviously I am going to love this book.! Does that make me biased?
3. A certain someone is back.
4. Agent Sweney is cool! And the other character are as always in depth and mostly full of awesomeness! On top of that Grace has one amzing Grandma, not that I'm too jealous, mine are great, too.
5. I love how at the beginning of each chapter there are survival tips AND they relate to what's happening in the book.
