Some time passed between when I read the first book and began this one, so it took me a little while to remind myself of everything that happened in Untraceable. Grace was just as enjoyable as in the first one, and I really liked how the author explored just how much the events of the first book are still being felt by this teenage girl.
I did not enjoy the teen drama with Wyn, but then again, I've never been a fan of a love-triangle. And, as in the first one, I'm not fond of first person present tense writing.
I would definitely recommend this to YA readers who like a mystery and learning something about the environment.
A few months ago Grace lost her father and the boy she loved. She was completely devastated. Her best friend, Wyn, turned his back on her and the whole town blamed her for what happened. She had to pick up the pieces of her life and keep moving, but she has not been back into the woods since that time.
One day at school everything changes, she volunteers for the Red Wolf Project. A group of students will track and observe red wolves in the wild to make sure it is safe to reintroduce them into the wild. This project forces Grace to go back into the woods where she needs to be.
Once the project gets under way the groups start finding dead wolves and Grace feels something isn’t right. She is afraid Al is back to kill her after he killed her father. Grace is terrified he will come after her.
The project becomes dangerous as students get injured as they search. There are shocking revelations and betrayals as Grace finds out the truth behind what is really going on.
This is the second book in The Nature of Grace series. I loved the first book and was excited to read this one. It did not disappoint. It was action packed and full of surprises. I absolutely love Grace’s character. She has been through the most heart breaking things but continues on. She chooses to do what is right even though it may be dangerous. She is easy to like and tough.
The adventure she encounters keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I couldn’t put it down as I tried to figure out who the bad guy really was. The author did a fabulous job keeping you believing it was one person when actually it was someone else entirely. An Awesome read! I give it a 5 out of 5.
Unstoppable is a wonderful read. The story is action-packed and truly gets your heart beating fast, the plotlines are tight and well-planned, and the writing is well done. It's one of those rare books where the romance doesn't make me want to cry with frustration, and it's got a great cast of supporting characters.
This book is truly great YA by any measure, but what sets it apart from other books is its hidden agenda. The book is a proxy through which the great S.R. Johannes aims to educate about the importance of protecting endangered animals and their habitats, and this worthy effort shines through beautifully. As an added bonus, Johannes has written a teenage character who really gets what it's like to love the woods, something an author who hasn't been in the same situation just can't bring through authentically.
All in all, Unstoppable is an amazing, spell-binding, and believable second book in a series that's fit for everyone, YA reader and nature enthusiast alike.
