"Uncovering the Tarot of the Masters" is my book of choice to study the meanings of the Tarot cards for several reasons. Firstly, I enjoy his choice of art and the explanations behind his choices and how they relate to the Tarot...bringing art, art history, tarot and tarot history together in one enriching and enlightening bundle. Secondly, those illustrations and his explanations help solidify the essence of each card, thereby passing on a true comprehension of the cards and gives a true knowledge and learning of the tarot and not just a reference. Finally, the common definitions he gives on each card provide so many wonderful facets of the cards' meanings, tied in with the illustrations, and thereby opening a world of interpretation for the reader - beginning to expert. A card does not have one particular meaning in the Tarot and, in my experience, must always be taken into context with the question, the reading, the person, everything. As such, James gives the reader a rich sense of the flavor of each card, positive and negative aspects, that provides a wealth of information for a single picture. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words and James does a great job of covering that realm.
