Thanks UA for another gerat cold gear product.
-Some "pew professionals" in the LEO department can not wear the face portion of this hood. The good people of UA designed this so the hood can easily be brought down to the chin.
-The neck portion tucks right into any shirt you are wearing so no skin is exposed to the cold elements.
- Very warm on the face and great base layer for the skull.
- Very comfortable material. Very comfortable fit.
- Even if you are not an American badass you can pretend to be one while wearing this mask and holding an AR15 in a pic with your buddies.
-Wearing this mask after getting into an argument with your spouse about grocery money, driving to the bank to get said grocery money, getting road rage while driving to the bank to get said money , and then entering bank wearing said mask and flailing your arms while screaming because of anger due to spouse and traffic may lead to serious injury, death, or a teller quickly giving you a lot of money in a bag. In short. Don't wear this mask to the bank.
My final complaint isn't really a problem with this particular balaclava, but with all of them in general. If you're wearing glasses, they're going to fog up, especially if you wear the balaclava over your nose. The major flaw as I see it is that there is always a gap in the balaclava beneath your eyes between the bridge of your nose and your cheek. The air you exhale will escape right through that gap and fog up your glasses like the windows of my car when my wife and I show up at an event too early.
The only solution that I can envision for this problem is some sort of malleable wire within the mask that you could mold to the contour of your nose and cheeks. Obviously this might not be very comfortable though...
Although this material seems thin, my husband assures me that it is super warm and not at all bulky like the Balaclava he has that is made out of a knit material. He said when it is really cold, he can comfortably wear a stocking hat as another layer for warmth.
As the other reviews said, yes, there is a bit of restricted airflow when you wear the product. Also when you breathe out you can feel the air coming out which may discomfit some wearers. But these are minor inconveniences that don't take away from the overall usefulness of the product.Worth the buy!
The pull up portion of the mask is incredibly comfortable and this is the first mask I've owned that does a good job with this feature. The material is comfortable against the skin but I feel it picks up body odors quicker than other products. The neck really needs to be longer as is doesn't provide full coverage and really lets the cold and wind sneak in on particularly bitter days.
I'd say this mask is good down to the teens by itself and that's pushing it, maybe down to 0 if you're moving around consistently. For anything colder or with a bitter wind you really need to wear something over this.
Overall it's a good buy and I have no trouble recommending this to fellow tradesmen/outdoors men/athletes
