I usually carry my lunch, Bose headphone as well as medication on a daily basis. Sometimes extra clothes for my daughters if we are out and about. I was not utilizing all the compartments with my JanSport and it felt bulky as I didn't fully utilize the space. Plus it had many straps that just got in the way after awhile; great for hiking, not exactly the most efficient pack for everyday use.
<<Construction & Size>>
The overall size of this Under Armour sling backpack seemed to be the same as my JanSport backpack at first but less bulky and still fit everything I need. There's less volume overall but this isn't a bad thing since I was aiming for a more minimalist approach this time. The stitching and sewing is done very well. Even the small strap on the zipper pull is stitched while the main compartment utilize decent zippers. Zipper construction is where I was worried about as many of the cheaper backpacks I've had in the past seem to use smaller zippers that tend to break in a short period.
I was trying to take pictures to give others an idea what can fit but it can comfortably store two rolls of paper towels (or few wine bottles yes!). My cheap 13" HP laptop fits comfortably as well in the main compartment with plenty of space for other items. The small compartment can store decent amount of everyday items and fit my 8" ASUS tablet just as an example shown.
A nice touch is the small compartment on the shoulder strap. I currently put my work badge but can easily hold change and other items you want to grab on the fly. Unfortunately it's not large enough to put my wallet.
There's also the small cloth lined zippered pocket between the main & front compartment. I keep my medications there. I'd say you can fit about three or four of the smaller medication container easily.
The bottle holder is just a hair small to fit my Nalgene bottle. It does fit very tightly if I try but don't think it's design to fit such large water bottle long term. I did purchase a carabiner so I can clip one when I'm out with my daughters on a day trip.
I love that I can swing this sling pack around to grab things quickly unlike a traditional backpack where I'm taking it off of my shoulders. In that sense, the compartments design and opening makes total sense. And with the right shoulder strap design, I feel like the entire sling pack has better weight distribution overall.
The length of the adjustable strap is plenty. I stand at 5'11" and don't need to have the strap at its longest length. For the size of the backpack, the shoulder strap has enough padding. Unless you're hauling bricks in the compartment I don't think it should be an issue wearing it all day.
I do wish the main compartment's zipper was beefier as shown in the photos (JanSport being on top). I'm sure they'll last longer than cheaper backpacks but in the past I've experience these smaller zippers fail within few months where the plastic pieces bend not allowing the zipper to close. Time will only tell.
Now this is a sling backpack so I wasn't expecting a ton of space as well as compartments. But I feel like there's enough space to at least add one additional compartment somewhere that has a zippered mesh pouch.
Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this sling backpack and highly recommend it for its comfort and ease of use everyday!
- It's very well-made and the cross strap, although it rests in the opposite direction than I am used to slinging my bag, is still incredibly comfortable.
- I filled it with: 15" Laptop, Case Logic SLR Camera Holster, inflatable neck pillow, snacks, travel wallet, and cell phone and it's still not super bulgy, difficult to zip closed, or uncomfortable.
- The zipper on the main pouch conveniently provides enough access to the interior that you don't feel like you have to dig around blindly in the bottom.
- The smaller zippered pouch at the top is soft - perfect for not scratching my cell phone and providing easy access from over my shoulder.
- The zippered pocket on the sling strap makes for easy access for my ID and such while at the airport.
- The side mesh pouch is high enough that my water bottle doesn't fall out.
All in all, I dig it. We'll see how it fairs on my travels.
I'm fine with that, because it is light and everything I have fits in it (see pictures). I have a battery charger that can charge my Surface Book on the go, it's pretty big, but fits perfectly.
It's a roomy back and seems made for the Surface Book. I really like it. Don't buy the cheap Chinese knock offs that are flooding Amazon, they fall apart. At least I know this brand and it's reputable.
