Dr. Avery is a medical examiner in Chicago's Cook County in Illinois. After a rash of odd murders, she teams up with Dr, Sybil Shanley to catch the vicious killers. First, two homeless men were beat to death and then two nuns were killed. Why these victims?
Police investigations lead them to one of the murderers. but he flees to California with Avery and Shanley on his trail. . The entire picture, as to why the killers bludgeoned the victims and filmed their deaths, in the age of the internet, becomes clearer with each new lead. But each answer is increasingly horrifying.
The reader is told fairly early on who the killers are ... and why they do the things they do. The thrill of this book is in the investigation of the two medical examiners. The closer they get to the answers they're looking for, the more danger they face ... and learning the entire truth is gut-wrenching to these women.
I did find it a little bogged down in the middle ... but not for long ... and it was never enough for me to not want to finish reading to the surprising ending. The author did a great job in detailing autopsies and getting a long look in the inner workings of a medical examiner's workplace. I look forward to following thee characters on their adventures.
