I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Two men both searching for something only a special person can give them. Could Camdyn and Malik find that in each other.
First we meet Camdyn whose last partner, both in sex and work, decides he's had enough of the down low life and he leaves him with a hole in his life. He is looking for someone to fill the void but past relationships, those on the down low, have all burned out and left him a bit jaded.
Malik, was recently asked to leave the Army under DADT after helping a fellow soldier who was being beat up for his sexual orientation. Although Malik has some funds saved he chooses to move home with his parents and they never fail to let him know that they feel his lifestyle is a sin. He is at odds with his parents and decides to go to the shooting range where he meets Camdyn.
Malik is looking for a job and Camdyn a partner...could this be a connection made by fate?
Over all this was a bit of a slow paced read for me. Don't get me wrong, they meet and have an immediate connection but the back and forth, yes and no killed the forward movement of the story line for me. Also, I felt felt uncomfortable with a particular kink the two MCs share and would advise readers to be open to play prior to reading.
I'm interested to see where the next book takes theses two characters as they move on with their lives both personally and professionally.
Please note that I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
I found the immediate chemistry between Camdyn and Malik refreshing as they acknowledged it. I found that they did not rush into sex but took the time to get to know each other endearing.
Malik's parents were fanatical to their religion and disrespectful and deceitful to the young woman they tried to force Malik into a relationship with. The kink in the book was something I had never encountered before. It was unexpected and quite unique. I wanted the story to be longer, so that I could get to know them much better. I look forward to the next novella.

I've received a copy of this novella for an honest review.
This was a well written short book. It was written in way that made it seem longer than you typical novella which shows great skill. There wasn't loads of material plumping it out either. There was a good connection between the MCs. And I liked the fact that this wasn't acted upon until the end of the book. The kink wasn't needed in my opinion but it added something to the book to stop it being just another run of the mill m/m book.
I will be looking out to see further books in the series.
One thing I felt was added to add the shock factor. Without their kinky preference, the story would have been just as good. There were also a couple comments made by both men that seemed unnatural. They only happened a couple times and didn't distract from the story
Unfortunately, both of these amazing men have suffered because of their sexuality. I can't imagine how hard it is for them to have the courage to be themselves. Once I started the book, I felt so connected to them that I couldn't put the book down for long. This book is just the beginning of their relationship, both personal and professional. I can't wait to read more about this couple.
Under the Gun is written in alternating POV. There is no cliffhanger ending and could be read as a stand alone.
