There’s also a rumour going around that Barney may have the hots for Penelope, but Penelope’s mother disagrees. She thinks Barney may be Scottish. Penelope’s mother is a complicated woman.

There’s a barking goose too. Come to think about it - the only normal animal in Penny’s life is her cat, Rosie.

I really enjoyed this book! It has a lot of fun as well as an interesting mystery to work out! I very much liked all of the characters in the book, and I can't wait to read the next one! I was originally offered an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review, but I ended up buying it myself and I'm glad I did! Very cute new series!

A businessman ruffles the feathers of people who rent buildings from him and later found dead. The village of Wickford is set in the hilly English countryside that has a canal going through the middle of it with a tow path on the opposite side were the long boats dock. Penelope (Penny), Susie (the best friend and a reporter), Willow (Penelope' s 18 year old sister), Granny (Gladys), Mum (Penelope and Willow' s mother) and Boris the goat are all witches except Susie & Boris. Half the village are suspects and the craziness begins. The book is a fun, fast read and I look forward to the next book.

No doubt about it, this book should get six stars! Great characters, a wonderfully ridiculous magickal spell that went wrong, and an Oxford educated goat. Don't mind the goose that barks or all the false trails you wander down before you find out who done it. Oh, there's a delightful cat whose just a cat, what a novelty! I laughed so much I wound up having to read long parts to my beloved. Now to get book two!

Wow! I am so happy to find this book! It was a very good surprise. I do love book about witches with funny story and imperfect characters. The granny, the goat, even the mom are so fun to read about. Loved this idea of a witch living in a boat and having her little shop on water!

If the first few lines of the book make your eyes roll because they are so cliche, carry on anyway - it gets better. This book is light and entertaining with a setting that makes me wish I could run a shop on a boat. Also a talking goat because who doesn't love a good talking animal?
