Heartfelt with tears- If you ever lost a father, Dylan will talk about her father and the love he had for her and the last moments she has with her father before cancer took him. My father also died from cancer but he want given months to live but days to a month and he was in pain.
Heartbreak was the second haft to almost the ending. Ben ending his happiness with grift over his mother’s (Soiler) suicide and left his heart.
The majority is Dylan trying to live without her hovering brothers and try to live her life the way she wants it and push ‘Ben’ matter in the back of her mind. While Ben is back at school, giving his father what he wants in Ben future as a defense attorney and never let emotions become weakness. But Ben don’t lack female attention and his drinking leads to one nighters. I didn’t like to read that even through Dylan never replaced Ben in the bedroom, Ben did and thought of indulging in one of his professors. Jees man show some stinking emotions, letting them build won’t do any good. Hence the wanting to strangle him and his stupid rules his father nailed into his youth of learning.
I have more to say but I’ll stop here. Next book is going to be even more heartfelt since after reading about Charlie and his fiancée Meredith turned wife and their love for each other, his book will be hard with his hardship with being a widower and raising his son will be harder to read. BTW this bit wasn’t a spoiler since you can read it on amazon in the ‘look inside’ part.
Dylan Matthews grew up as the only girl surrounded by her brothers and turned into a huge tomboy. This isn’t a story where the girl turned from ugly duckling to beautiful swan, no Dylan was always beautiful. It just so happened she could also keep up with her brothers.
Ben McKenna is her twin brother Jonah’s best friend and always consider one of the Matthews since he was around so much. Dylan being the tomboy she is, was always around the guys. Then one day her feelings for Ben changed into more, she wanted Ben to see her as a girl. She wanted him to want her as much as she wanted him. This wasn’t the case though, as they say boys will be boys.
"Boys are stupid, the never know a good thing until they’ve run it over a few times.”
While it may not seem like Ben is interested, he is. There is something about Dylan. She gets him, accepts him, and calms him. However, Ben’s home life isn’t like the Matthews. While his father is successful and his family is wealthy, his dad left he and his mother when he was younger. Since then his mother has done nothing but instill in him how he is not good enough and just like his father.
So despite Ben’s attraction to Dylan he refuses to let things go any further. Except for the nights they share. Yes, every night Ben comes to Dylan’s room and sleeps with her - just sleeps. Until the last night he is in town before he leaves for school. That night Dylan decides to lay it all on the line and make her move, only to have him leave.
The story picks up five years later and despite them both growing up not much else has changed. Dylan still thinks about Ben and compares every guy to him. Ben still yearns for Dylan but knows he will never be good enough to deserve her.
I really enjoyed this friends to lovers tale and the little bit of sneaking around. I enjoyed seeing the couple interact and seeing how well they knew each other. They were truly friends and knew each other inside and out, I loved the connection they shared. My only compliant is I wish there had been more time for Ben to redeem himself. His character really frustrated me and I would have felt better had I seen more groveling. However, the story is well written and the characters were developed and likable, I just wish Ben could have been more lovable. I will definitely be reading more about this family! Highly recommend if you are looking for a sweet, quick read.
"I have always loved you. Even if you make me go away, just know that I will never stop. I will love you for the rest of my life."
Dylan is cursed yet blessed to be the only sister amongst a house full of brothers. She has always been one of the guys so to speak, but she has always been in love with her twin brothers best friend, Ben. When he returns after five years, Dylan is at a loss of words of what she wants to say to Ben. He’s a pro at one night stands and being a womanizer, but when he creeps into her room at night, he’s a different person. The person she knows that is the real Ben.
Ben assumes that he isn’t worthy of love. His father left and his mother continues to tell him that he will be just like him. When he finally returns to Phoenix for Christmas, he realizes that Dylan is def not “Weed” as they use to call her, and he is certain that even though she’s always been the one for him, he’s not worthy of her love.
Under the Orange Moon is a story of love, loss, heartache, friendship, and letting go of what someone assumes about you. It’s about following your heart before it’s to late, and praying that your one true love feels the exact same way.
