I must qualify this review with a few statements. First, I have never been a huge fan of Amorphis. I've listened to some of their albums and, while I thought they were good, none of them ever lasted for more than a few spins before I moved on to something else. Second, I love metal and I certainly do have my favorite bands and albums. I listen to almost every genre of metal you can think of and I enjoy all of it. I've been listening to metal for over 30 years now and will until the day I die. So, with all of that in mind here is my very simple review of "Under the Red Cloud" by Amorphis:
"Under the Red Cloud" is the most complete, cohesive, epic example of what metal is and should be. I lack the vocabulary necessary to fully express how I feel about this album. "Under the Red Cloud" is now my favorite metal album ever. Period. I truly hope anyone who listens to it enjoys it half as much as I do.

Amorphis did it again, another near perfect album, although I still think Circle is their best, I can still give this also 5 stars because you can't compare it to Circle or any of their other albums. Some new style, a little different sound while still keeping their own unique sound, only they can always be new and not lose their own specialness. All the songs have the really good melodies I love from them, excellent musicians and of course Tomi Joutsen that makes it all come together with his super voice and style. Sacrifice is one of their better songs on this or any of their other albums - it is a really special song with exceptional lyrics and great vocal performance

I'm adding this after listening to the album for about 15 times, I have to say the title track "Under the Red Cloud" is probably one of the best songs I have ever heard or will ever hear, the perfect intro to this even better album than I realized

I don't do this very often. I only write a review when the CD is so good that I can't stop listening to it. Amorphis is good. This album, is incredible. I thought Circle was really good. Nightbird's song is superb. This album beats Circle. I believed Eclipse and Tuonela were their best albums until I just listened to this one. If you're a fan of Melodic Death Metal - this album is the best I have ever heard. I am 52 years old and my wife cannot believe I listen to this. All she has to do is hear the beauty in the instrumentals, the poetry in the lyrics and the all out heart and soul pounding "Rock". I have my own rating system and I seldom rate an album as "Perfect". This is "PERFECT" - A masterpiece. I love it! To the band - Love your music - Great Job!

I've been a fan of Amorphis since they released Tuonela back in 1999. I appreciate all their albums and think they are one of the most underrated bands in metal. That said this might be their best album since Eclipse was released back in 2006. All the tracks are great and the recording quality is outstanding. On track 2 the church organ is used and you can tell they actually went to a church just to record it. This album has some flute heavy sounds which is something that I appreciate as a fan of Eluvietie. For first time Amorphis listeners, If you like Opeth, Eluvietie, Barren Earth, or Omnium Gatherum, this album is right up your alley.

Are You Kidding Me?
With a few exceptions most bands can barely put a decent album together. Then there is Amorphis - they are in a whole different category. I didn't think they could top the brilliant Circle and not only did they top it they blew it away! Under the Red Cloud quite simply put is a masterpiece - with the first listen I just sat in awe! Every detail, every note, flawless right down to the flute and the church organ just flows seamlessly. Simply put, this is the best metal album I have heard in the last decade! Tomi Jousten should be put up there with the great metal vocalists of our time: Dickinson, Halford and Tate; his voice is amazing. I cannot stop listening to this album and when I'm not, I find myself humming it in my head. The only downside to Amorphis is that they rarely tour the States. Under the Red Cloud is another awesome album in a long line of awesome albums by Amorphis who are right now the best band in the world!!!!

10 tracks of well crafted folk tinged metal and heavy rock with alternating death growls and soaring, melodic clean vocals. Musically the album shows subtle and expressive guitar work, with chunky riffs and a rhythm section that creates an a mid tempo driving beat. The piano and flute work add to the folk atmosphere.
It's a pretty flawless album and definitely a candidate to be on many best of lists at the end of 2015

With the release of Under the Red Cloud, something interesting seems to be happening. The hardcores are singing the album’s praises, as is to be expected, but even some of the unconverted are speaking up. There’s a genuine buzz in the air over just how good a record Amorphis have put out here. It's their best-sounding album in years, there are a few twists and turns sprinkled throughout that add much-appreciated freshness, and everything is so melodic and memorable.
