About the Author
Michael Sincere is a full-time columnist, writer, and author of numerous books, including Understanding Stocks and All About Market Indicators.
Top customer reviews
Sincere's style of writing is clear, concise and very easy to read and follow. Terminology is explained in simple terms - he does a good job of assuring the reader that one will not get boggled in technical terms. As he says ... one doesn't need to understand a combustable engine to drive a car.
Sincere develops the chapters very well, progressing from topic to topic in an understandable and fluid manner.
As he suggests, one must be familiar with stocks, the market, and trading in general, before reading this book. There are many stock market and investment books available as primers, including one by the same author. Read and know investing before you start this book.
Understanding Options is a primer for the beginning option investor, as refresher for the more experienced, and covers very technical and advanced strategies for the seasoned investor.
My first edition - being in book form - is highlighted and dog eared. This edition I bought electronic - easy to read and many links are included which make it nicer to move within the volume to various topics. Of course it can still be 'page marked' and sections saved and highlighted for rereads.
Everybody has a story about the stock market and mine is probably like others. For 30 years, I let my 401k be handled by others. Oh, I could direct my funds towards a myriad of mutual funds and make a stock purchase now and then, but working life and family life made it more practical for the "experts" and the fund companies to use their extensive research in order to grow my stocks. They did okay, but over a ten year period, getting double-digit percent growth was challenging for them.
But, my sister changed all that by insisting I could do better as long as I put in the time. She was right. Options were the key because depending on what instrument you choose and how you approach it, you can use options to protect gains, minimize risk, increase your leverage, and do it all on your own. I had a 60% gain last year (Remember the August deficit battle in Congress? I made gains on that misadventure), all on my own. Using the online tools, listening to Cramer's "Mad Money" and using this book has changed how my investments have improved.
Don't tell yourself you can't do it. Read up. Listen to business channels. Then if after some exposure to stocks you are looking for better returns, get this book. At $3.59 for the Kindle, it is a steal!
This is not a hype book full of real life (fitted) examples, rather a foundational book for you to go create your own. New to options or exploring then, I definitely recommend reading.
