Peter Talbot is still reeling from his wife's untimely passing when he discovers someone reused his wife's obituary to cover up the death of someone else. When he discovers several deceased couples' obituaries have been abused in the same way, he cannot let it rest and sets out to find out what's going on and set it right.

When the author contacted me to review his most recent novel, he told me to pull up a beach chair and enjoy. Well, I sat inside in the air-conditioning (can you blame me, it's in the mid-90s!) but I still enjoyed it. How could I not when it was a fast paced thriller I could actually understand! Sometimes when I'm reading a book from this genre I find myself bogged down with details and characters that I don't actually care about, but The Undertaker moved so quickly without boring downtime and useless characters and details.

Aside from that, I also enjoyed that the story takes the readers all over the country as Pete tries to find out who used his wife's death for their own use. The only real problem I has with the novel is that even though Pete forms a romantic relationship with a character named Sandy, I didn't feel any chemistry between the two as I read.

So yeah, in a nutshell I would recommend this to anyone looking for a thrilling, easy mystery to read on the beach. Or your living room, if you prefer.

If you like suspense, action and are into conspiracy theories, I recommend this book.

The story line was the first thing to grab me. Here is a man who lost his wife and everything he stood for and now someone is not only using his name but his dead wife's name to bury mysterious people. Not once, but several times! Having nothing else to lose, Pete travels around trying to find out not only who is doing this but why, while trying to get killed for nosing around.

The main character here, Pete, is likable. A bit dense sometimes, I end up rooting for him and worrying for him when he continues to put himself in danger with questionable men. I have to admire his persistence at finding out what people are getting out of this whole plot, yet at the same time I want to scream at him that he is way over his head and to just walk away.

William Brown did an excellent job in pulling me in and keeping my attention throughout the book. There wasn't a rest in the plot and more importantly, no down times. It was constant action and suspense.

Mr. Brown's book is an e-pub on Kindle, Sony, Nook, IBook, and all the others.

Two obituaries, two funerals....one stating he died in Mexico the other stating he and his wife died in Columbus, Ohio....but how could that be....Peter Emerson Talbot was alive and reading the obituary, and he had attended the funeral in Ohio. Attending this funeral sure ended up with a lot of trouble for Peter and also a lot of information that could put a number of folks behind bars. Something was pretty fishy about all of this.

The real Peter stayed in Columbus after "his" funeral and decided to check out obituaries for the past few months to see who had died and if there were similarities in deaths. He found quite a few obituaries of couples who died in unusual circumstances and who had no surviving relatives, but they all had the same funeral director and same attorney. Peter also found a lot of suspicious activity going on and decided to check out the offices of an attorney and a doctor who were involved....bad move, Peter.

Peter knew he got himself into more than he could handle and had to get out of town and mighty quickly, but how? He had no money, no clothes, and no car....they stole everything. He had some ideas, though. He had to bring these guys who were true criminals posing as honest citizens down.

Trying to be an honest citizen when the other citizens were not definitely wasn't a wise choice for Peter.

Peter made even more unwise choices, but he also made some right ones. Peter was witty, clever, and a character you will love.

Don't miss reading this book...it has a little bit of everything.....frightening scenes, clever twists and turns, love, and humor.

Had not read anything by William Brown before, but because it looked interesting and FREE on my Kindle, I tried it. Except for some grammatical and spelling errors (what do you expect for free right)? This was a great book, most unusual story line, different!! A teriffic story, great idea well set out and am enjoying it immensely. Will look out for more by William Brown in future.

Wow! I read the Prologue and decided I wasn't going to like this book. Then I read Chapter One and was hooked. I read Chapters Two and Three. I had to put it down and do other things, but took it up again at bedtime, waking in the morning to find I had left my light on and my Kindle still beside me.

You might be, like me, turned off by gangster land and torture chambers. And, like me, you'll fall hopelessly in love with Peter Talbott, a computer dude working for Symbiotic Software in Boston, who gets mixed up with slimeballs and scumbags because he still loves his wife Terri, who died young of cancer. Soon afterward, our hero reads his own obituary. It's a case of mistaken identity and he thinks it is cleared up until he reads another obituary for the both of them, described as car accident victims. That's when protecting Terri's memory becomes his obsession and drives him to Columbus, Ohio, where he stumbles onto more fake deaths and a major mafia operation. He has to hitchhike to Chicago. From that point on, all modes of transportation come into play.

I especially liked the juxtaposition of familiar and weird details in the Chicago scenes. Imagine bringing an injured man to a cozy suburban house with a swing on the porch, geraniums, Spider-Man curtains in the kid's room windows -- and four Chinese men in surgical garb greet you in the alley. Brown's originality peaks in his use of one of the most bizarre weapons you could imagine ('bet you can't). He writes a good romance, too, psychologically deep and yet amusing. The clever, kick-butt Sandy accompanies Pete all the way back to Boston, New York and D.C. They are constantly changing their disguises.
