I wrote the original review on Sep 20, 2011. The next evening I had an e-mail from a supervisor at 7th Avenue. She had read this review and wanted to help. She wanted to offer a replacement cape, but they were on backorder. She instead offered me a discount once they were back in stock. I was not happy at all with the poor quality of the torn cape I received, so I certainly don't want another one!
She also said they actually have a 30 day return policy but ask that customers contact them within 3 days of receiving the item if there's a problem. However, you still have to pay the 20% restocking fee, loose your initial shipping charge ($12.05 for basic shipping!)then of course have to pay to ship the item back to them. The money I'd get back wouldn't cover the gas to take the item to the post office.
I received a total of 3 emails from 7th Avenue, asking me to change my review on their site page, even how to change my Amazon review. They were very concerned about my comments, but never said they would waive the 20% restocking fee for the torn cape I received. This makes me wonder if they will try to resell this item to someone else.
I don't know what the quality of 7th Avenue's other items is like, but based on this experience, I will not order from them again.
UPDATE: I machine washed the cloak in cold water with plenty of fabric softener, then machine dried on air-fluff (no heat). This did eliminate the creases, decrease the stiffness, and give the fabric a better appearance. Still not the soft and flowing garment one would hope for, but it's an improvement.
it definitely not super cheap materials like I expected... it is very hot. I get cold easily so that's not a bad thing. If you are doing a bar crawl or outdoors Halloween/costume party where it starts to get chilly, this thing is great - if it came in Christmas colors, it would work for the vintage village carolers look too
Overall, I liked it. It got packed away to use in the future and would buy it again
Don't give up on the cape until you wash it first! Just wash it separately so you don't stain your clothes.
