Honestly, I'm about to start rereading this one because it's become one of my absolute favourite books in the past 24 hours. I met Jace and Ski (Danski) in the last book and was wondering when I'd get to read their story. I mean, it was kind of obvious in the first book with the puppy and the berserker rage and the love of books.
This one is my favourite of all Laurenston's books (so far) because of the books, the pup, the playfulness and seriousness and mythology and the Protectors acting just the way I would expect a clan of librarians and introverts to be. In fact, the explanation of introversion vs shyness made so much sense! Liking people, but not small talk; being comfortable with long silences; needing to recharge after too much time around people and people-noise; it's so familiar. Couple that with a heroine who goes into berserker rages and, well, what's not to love?
The party planning made me chuckle, but Bear in the library with the pup, and his growing liking for the little beastie, well, that just warmed my cold heart. The sex was also really good in this book; so much laughter and warmth and not just porn. Something I've come to expect from Laurenston. No wonder I'm smitten with her writing.
Now, who's next? I have some ideas. Especially about the cult.
