I just started reading Erotica in the past 6-8 months but I've read quite a few. This book has immediately jumped to the top of my list. The sex scenes were steamy but I like that there was a love story as well. I really get annoyed with books that just spew out a bunch of sex scenes and unrealistic "relationships" pop up out of nowhere and the whole thing doesn't make sense. This was NOTHING like that. There was depth to the characters and you get a sense of family and loyalty from Dylan and his group of friends. There was also a bit of suspense and mystery in the book which I enjoyed.
Dylan.....well that's all that really needs to be said if you've read the book. He is one giant piece of sex walking. I never really saw the appeal of a bald man (even younger ones) but it totally works for him. He just exudes confidence and sexuality but at the same time he's fiercely loyal, protective, and not afraid to show his emotions when he deems it necessary.
Tasha is damaged and has little self esteem when she first meets Dylan thanks to her ex-husband and his emotionally abusive treatment of her. There were times that she would talk down about herself and I wanted to give her a smack. I loved how not only did Dylan look out for her but his group of friends immediately welcomed her as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I absolutely can not wait to read Unexpected Protector (Book 2) about Tommy! Awesome job and I am happy to give a 5 out of 5 rating on this!!
I felt like the story line was one I've read over and over, but that's not to say that Sloan Johnson didn't do it well though. She did. She is a great writer. I liked the flow of the book, just didn't really feel like I connected with the Tasha or Dylan.
This was a solid 3.5 stars for me. I wish I could have given it more, I just felt like it was lacking something.
Did I love it, not really, did I like it? You bet. Will I read the next books? YES! and more than likely I'll buy them on their release dates. I think this is just the beginning for Sloan, I'm sure they'll just keep getting better and better from here, because I can tell she is a talented writer
In exchange for a copy of Unexpected Angel, I agreed to write an honest review. Is there any other kind at Raw Books? (The answer to that would be- HELL NO!) So, I received this book and I had it on my list to read. Then, I saw a couple of teasers floating around Facebook and I kept stopping to read them and kept realizing that they were for that book on my list. Well, I don't like to be teased, especially when I have the real thing in my clutches, so I sat down to read about this delicious piece of man known as Dylan Caprese.
I am in love! Seriously, Dylan is everything a woman could want in a Dom. He's firm but so gentle and caring. Tasha was truly precious to him. Tasha was also a strong woman who had been abused by her husband for years and had some triggers and hang ups. But that couldn't stop Dylan from stepping in and protecting "his Precious" (said in my best Gollum voice). Dylan was very patient in introducing Tasha to his lifestyle and along the way he helped her overcome some of said triggers and hang ups. The whole book was well done. It had a good pace and the characters were all believable and likable. I would have liked to see more "sexy times" scenes between Tasha and Dylan, but what I did see was smoking hot.
I really enjoyed that both characters were so right for each other and yet Tasha was so resistant to being claimed. And Dylan was a little baffled by his own behavior in regards to Tasha. The author, Sloan Johnson, gives us both points of view and she does it flawlessly. Dylan is all man and thinks like a Dom. He's used to being in control and obeyed, but he never crosses the line when it comes to Tasha. Now, Tasha had some growing to do. She needed to find who she was and learn to stand up for herself. She also had to face some harsh truths, but she has the boys men of the Isthmus Alliance at her back.
Dylan's best friend, Zeke, was a great character and a big support to Tasha. He treated her like a little sister and talked openly with her without breaking any of Dylan's confidences or overstepping. That's a hard line to straddle, but he did it and I really hoped the next book would be about him. Sadly, it's not but it is about sexy cop, Tommy. I got a sneak peek at the next book, Unexpected Protector, and I need more of Tommy. I think I will love him, too. And you can never have too many book boyfriends, can you?
