Carter, on the other hand, is intrigued by Tabitha but knows he can't do anything about it. He is caught in a web of lies and deceit. He is trying everything he can to get out of it but it's not working. Things keep going wrong until he finds a way out of it. He also can't deny he has feelings for Tabitha. It's a game of cat and mouse with these two. Once things are coming together, all you know what breaks them up again. Tabitha is hurt yet again...I'm dying to pick up the next one to see how she comes back from this and what happens next for her and Carter
Carter is a talented architect who has been blackmailed for 10 years. He's finally met "the one" and is determined to uncover the truth and escape the life he's been living.
Tabitha is a feisty redhead who has an amazing group of friends. She's literally knocked on her butt when she first sees Carter. Tabitha is attracted but cautious since a previous relationship left her shattered.
I was pulling for these two from the very beginning, but my heart was also hurting for Cory. The book ends on a cliffhanger so I'm hoping everyone has a HEA in book 2!
I love switching points of view, and I liked that this book had that. However, what I didn't like was how we got some of the same scenes back-to-back in each POV. It felt too repetitive to me.
The characters are pretty interesting. Tabitha is 32, but she seems immature for her age. She's single and likes to have fun, who can blame her!? I like her, she's different. The main guy, Carter, is sort of an alpha-male, but he's got his own mess to deal with. He comes off stalker-ish, but he is intriguing. A puzzle to figure out.
I think I could have really loved this book if a few things had been corrected and done differently. I'm hoping that I'll like the next book more, but we will see.
I have to start off by saying that I’m not used to reading Romance novels. At all. I’m the type of person who gets all red-faced and embarrassed reading stuff like this because I tend to have an overactive imagination where I put myself in the character’s shoes and witness/see/feel everything they do. I also want to say that though this wasn’t an erotica novel, it gave 50 Shades of Grey a run for its money and that’s because it was tasteful AND well written. *cough*
Unexpected Chances was a fun read especially since it was my first time out of my usual genre... (More via website)
Carter is trapped in a totally loveless marriage, in an arrangement that was made many years ago because his wife Bethany's father is a well-to-do and well connected politician. Carter's father is responsible for this arrangement, and Carter will never forgive his father for sacrificing Carter to further the father's law practice. Bethany is such a nightmare, and a demanding shrew.
Tabitha is trying to take over more duties in her best friend, Angela's company . It wasn't a good start for Tabitha to have fallen asleep in front of the computer screen for a Skype meeting with Carter. Carter was entranced by Tabitha from the moment he saw her asleep in her chair!
Tabitha had been cruelly betrayed by her boyfriend in college, and as a result she had trust issues. She worked with Carter, was intrigued by him, but couldn't trust him. The two go back and forth in their getting to know each other. Carter surprises her with visits, but Tabitha and her brother and friends aren't quite sure what to make of Carter yet.
As time went on Tabitha is trying to let go with Carter and enjoy being with him, and see a future together, but Carter has never told Tabitha that he was married, and his wife is determined to keep Carter on the hook to her father and herself.
Once again Tabitha is crushed, but she is determined to move on and not worry about Carter and his wife or his company.
This was a great read, a real page turner, and well worth reading along with the second of this series too!
