Lynn has been unable to find a job in the saturated market for nurses and her boyfriend has dumped her to "find himself", leaving her with student loans to pay and no job that will pay enough to do so. She decides to ask her brother if she can move into their unused apartment that is shared by her brother and cousin who are mannies to the Derrick and Courtney Murphy, a mob family that's in charge of the Northeastern states. Ryan doesn't know what to do, he cares for babies everyday but to take care of his own son, he's clueless. Lynn offers to take on the job taking caring for Brady but what Ryan doesn't know is that the Murphy's have offered to pay for her salary which is double what Ryan can pay her. Within a short amount of time both Lynn and Ryan fall in love with each other even though she hasn't told him who really is pay her salary. There is some back story with Courtney and Sean who are still feuding over her comment in "Silent Love" but Lynn becomes good friends with Courtney and understands that the Murphy's are family to Ryan, Russ and Jarrett and if she wants to become part of Ryan's life she needs to accept them as well.
Wonderful book and I have already loaded up "Dangerous Love" which is Derk's story.
Ryan knew what he wanted from life and a wife and kids weren't it. But when he learns he has instantly become a single father his whole life is turned upside down and deep down he doesn't want it. In walks Lynn a RN who can't find a job and goes to work as Ryans sons nanny.
Likes: Ryan has to deal with his own feels. The books progression doesn't just drop a baby on him and it be instant love. Its the same with his relationship with Lynn. It's not instant love or lust. They aren't hopping in the sack in the first chapter. The relationship are all built over time. The book flowed very well all around.
Dislikes: This book made me not like Beth and Sean, Beths parents, Courtney or her husband, and Lynns brother and cousin. Beth and Sean basically forced Ryan to take his son that he clearly didn't want. They knew this and told him they would help him. But they didn't. Then they turned around and treated him like crap for the way he felt. Not to mention Sean punched him in the face for it. Courtney and her husband (the mob boss) treat him like total crap for the same reason. Heck even Lynn treated Sean like crap for how he felt. Beths dad was such a d-bag in this book that it was hard to read the parts with him in it. Courtneys husband is a jerk just like in the first book. The amount of ex-military characters is overdone. I can't think of a single male character that isn't prior military. As a military wife I find it absurd that every one of these men are portrayed as short tempered (almost to the point of crazy) dbags. The family violence was stupid and pointless. Sean hitting Ryan and Lynn hitting her brother... there was no point to it. All it did was make them appear borderline crazy. I mean seriously.... when someone can't control themselves enough not to punch someone that upsets them.... they might just need to be on meds. Maybe the author was going for sexy violence... but it missed the mark entirely. What sealed the three star rating was the very end of the book in which Lynn guilts Ryan into allowing the mob to continue to pay her to take care of the baby even though they are getting married and the child will be hers. Lost all respect for her in the last two pages.
