“Mrs. Pollifax gives Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple a rival to reckon with.”—Toronto Star
From the Publisher
to try the books, because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to relate to mysteries featuring a suburban grandmother
working for the CIA. But because my grandmother's taste in literature has always been impeccable,
I decided to delve into Mrs. Pollifax's adventures. I began with THE UNEXPECTED MRS. POLLIFAX, the first
in the series, and immediately found them delightful. Mrs. Pollifax is just the kind of grandmother I'd
love to have: resourceful, intelligent, somewhat sly, and, of course, a secret CIA operative. Her
adventures take her to all corners of the globe: from an authentically described communist China
(MRS. POLLIFAX ON THE CHINA STATION) to an exhilarating safari across Africa (MRS. POLLIFAX ON
SAFARI). I've thoroughly enjoyed joining her on her adventures, and intend to read them all. I recommend them
to everyone who's interested in learning about different countries and cultures--and, obviously, espionage!

Although this book sounds like its going to be all humor it actually has a lot of action in it. I got swept up in her Adventure and was at the end before I knew it. A definite page turner.
You will meet three recurring characters. Two are her contacts in the CIA and how she finally becomes an Agent...well read the book!
I highly recommend it.
Light hearted, somewhat entertaining, often silly, it didn't strike my funny bone the way it did for many people. I thought it was an enjoyable read but not outstanding. I would say this is a good book for the right reader, I'm just not that reader. A bit too far-fetched for my taste.

What follows is a tale of her capture and subsequent escape along with a fellow agent.
The Mrs Pollifax series is a real gem. Long awaited in Kindle format for the UK market ,I can only hope the other stories become available soon. A must read. More please!
The delightful Mrs Pollifax, widow and accidental spy. Lighthearted, fun and engaging. Mrs Pollifax, both unlikely and hugely likeable, is a disaster waiting to happen. This is the very first of the adventures of Mrs Pollifax and this excellent series goes on to recount many more. A fully relaxing read providing some much needed escapism. Rather joyous.
May seem a little dated to younger readers but I don't think any more so than Agatha Christie's Miss Marple books, if you like those you should enjoy these.
Mrs Pollifax is American but travels in the books so you get snapshots of how travel used to be.
Interesting support characters also - would recommend reading at least 1st two books before giving up as this one is 'setting the stage so is a little slower than following books.
