Unexpected Protector is an amazing book that I would recommend to everyone. UP is the second in the Isthmus Alliance series, following Unexpected Angel and Sloan transitions perfectly from one to the other with just enough recap from the first book. The story is tender and loving with just the right amount of steamy and spicy. There is a wonderful bond between the people in the story, that I felt engulfed in, which is amazing to me. It's been a long time since a story has touched me that much. I like the interactions of the many characters, especially towards the end. I can not wait for the next book and look forward to what Sloan has in store for us next. Keep up the great work!
Tommy and Holly are perfect for each other. Despite their equal yet different baggage they help each other heal and deal with their pasts. Holly is dealing with who she used to be and trying to be a better person and make something of her life. I really admired this about her. She learns to be a strong person and more confident. Tommy is dealing with some of his own demons and he's a bit lost. He's a sexy Dom but also a little lost and has yet to deal with his past.
The supporting cast of friends that they have in their group aren't in much of the book but when they are, they are really great and lend to the whole sense of family the group gives off. Between the great character dynamics and intense story line I loved every word of this book and can't wait to read the next one in the series. This is a solid 5 out of 5 stars for me!
Tommy believes he sees some good in Holly despite her part in the incident and her drug abuse but his involvement is causing strain on other relationships he has with his friends and family. With nowhere else for Holly to go following a hospital and rehab stay he agrees with Tasha for Holly to stay with him.
Holly is struggling with the fall out of the incident and her guilt at the problems she has caused for others, especially Tasha and Tommy. As she makes a recovery from her drug abuse, Tommy is determined he sees Holly as a sub despite her earlier Domme role at the clubs open nights so he sets out to help Holly connect with this side of her and so face other issues she has at the same time. Holly has a preconceived idea of what a Dom is, will she accept that her previous experiences were misguided and accept Tommy's Dominance as he patiently awaits her submission and acceptance?
This story is so much more than just a BDSM story it is about relationships of all kinds, along with accepting and forgiving others that have made mistakes. We have glimpses of Dylan throughout the book who is upset and angry with Holly for what she did to Tasha yet he is still financially supporting her to please Tasha. His stance is causing friction in his relationship with Tasha and Tommy, can he learn to forgive Holly and mend things before it is too late? Just as we think he can a face from the past returns that pushes the friends further apart and sends Tommy in a downward spiral, now it is time for Holly to do what she can to bring Tommy back and fix his friendship with the help of Zeke.
We meet some new characters and IA members in this book Mary, a fiery haired attorney that steps in to help Holly and we gets hints that she is having a relationship with Zeke, though it doesn't seem to be straight forward. Jeff, Holly's Doctor who turns up at the club and is invited by an unknowing Dylan to the IA. And Liam, Dylan's long absent Brother. They are flawlessly written into the story and cause questions of their own that I look forward to answers to in future IA books.
We are left with another craftily forged ending by Sloan that leaves us anxiously waiting the next book in this fabulous series with eager anticipation, though it may take me some time to forgive Sloan for doing this to us at this moment in time!! ha ha!!
Unexpected Protector is another wonderfully written book by an author that truly understands the whole balance of what a true D/s relationship is, beyond the common misconception that it is just kinky sex as a lot of BDSM themed books seem to. It brings to the fore the building of understanding, trust and honesty that is vital for such a relationship to succeed. For that I again thank Sloan!! I love this series and the manner in which it is written and highly recommend it.
Tommy and Holly were introduced in UA and there story picks up in Unexpected Protector. You not only learn more about Tommy and Holly who are the main characters in UP but Sloan continues to build and tell more about the Isthmus Alliance. Both Holly and Tommy try to pretend or make people believe they are strong and don't need anyone but you can see as the story unfold that they need each other more than the other lets on. It is almost like you fall in love with them as they fall in love with each other. The only thing is will their feeling for each other be able to withstand their friends and their pasts?
