He asks for nothing in return. Big story in town the next day. Now here is what bothered me. GOSSIP has given this guy a reputation. The biggest gossip has never even met him and she is telling all these tales about this guy being the lowest of the low. The heroine sits there and says nothing. Really? he saves both their lives and she has nothing good to say about him? I don't get that.
Then she allows these old biddies to tell her what to do and how to do it since they were friends of her dead mother. Now, this heroine has a teen daughter so she is not a 17 year old, she is a grown woman with a child that she has been raising on her own. Since her husband dies so young she puts on a hair shirt and wears it for 15 years. No dating, etc. Really? I don't get that either.
This one just didn't do it for me. I didn't particularly like these characters. I liked the hero but he was not of this town!!! I quit reading. I found myself getting more and more disgruntled with her lack of a backbone and their pettiness, etc. Just not for me. I think the storyline was good and had a lot of potential the heroine just needed more spine.
His tires skidded across the muddy hillside, and the truck fish- tailed several times before finally coming to a stop at an angle that would have been fun as hell in his younger days. Today, it was just an impediment to his forward progress.
“Didn’t you feel their passion?” Griffin thought back to the way they’d talked about their company and their designs. The two young designers had been practically vibrating with the energy of their vision. They’d reminded him of Clare while she was baking: alive, passionate and overflowing with that special talent that came only from tapping into your true self. “Their souls are wrapped up in that company, and that’s what we need to drive this thing.”
“A love so huge and so powerful, that it sweeps across everything. It’s always there. It’s fuller than a heart can hold, so it spills out into the world and fills everything around it with more love. It’s there when I fall asleep. It’s there when I wake up.” She met Griffin’s gaze. “It’s there every time I breathe in, every time I breathe out, and with every beat of my heart.”
I will re-read this story and look forward to more works by this author.
