Traditionally, many well-meaning evangelical churches and pastors have either implied or stated directly that our "status" as Christians is perpetually on trial, tentative, subject to review, and on shaky ground, based on whether or not we are keeping an artificially-created set of "rules" like praying often enough, reading our Bibles often enough, witnessing to others about our faith, attending church every time an event occurs, confessing 100% of our sins on a daily basis, etc. The idea seems to be that if a believer in Christ does not "measure up" to a certain level of actions and activities, he/she is "out of favor" with God. And so we as believers are constantly tempted, in our minds, to pass grace through various filters to attempt to make it conform to our preconceived ideas.
Dr. Langley methodically, gently, and persistently makes the case for the New Covenant ... a covenant of grace ... that Jesus came to bring to all who would believe in Him. Appealing to Scripture again and again, the author proclaims the good news that the message of grace is, in simplest terms, "the gospel." We are not required to earn God's favor; in fact, it is impossible for us to do so! Instead, the Lord has demonstrated His love for us. It is a love that is ongoing and unconditional. It is a love based on grace.
Because of the way imperfect humans typically treat other imperfect humans, it is sometimes difficult for us to grasp the magnitude of the unfiltered grace with which God loves His children. We are the beneficiaries of His incredible sacrifice, His perfect love, His unfiltered grace, now and for all time. This is grace that inspires us to action from the overflow of full hearts, rather than from feeling an obligation to fulfill certain requirements. Dr. Langley's book is easy to read, difficult to put aside once you have begun reading, and will serve as a valuable resource again and again as the believer walks in the grace of Jesus!
Life is easier to live of you know about true Grace,
