While I have not been in the same situation as Rachel, I felt like she was a very relatable character. She can't quite put her finger on it, but there's just something about her relationship with Tony that isn't right, so she ends things. The break up makes her question herself and the decisions that she's made so far in life. Even when she was at her worst, she was still very sweet. It was very interesting to read about her journey to finding herself.
This book moves at a very slow pace. Even though Rachel is a grown woman it almost felt like a coming of age story. However, the pacing really gives you a chance to really get to know the characters. If you have an interest in romance/chick lit then this is definitely the story for you!
This book is perfect for lazy weekend read. And while I gave it four stars, I think it was be merely out of enjoyment versus a true LOVE for this book. I found myself just enjoying the story and the journey of self discovery that the main Character embraces.
Unforgettable Embrace is the story of Rachel, a 30-ish woman who breaks off her 14-year relationship with her childhood sweetheart and feels lost now that she has given up on years of comfort and stability. But soon with the help of friends she decides to travel around Ireland to find herself.
Throughout Rachel's travels, there is a constant inner dialogue going on with Rachel. She describes the landscape, villages, people she meets and her emotions based on where her life has now lead her. While this can be VERY daunting and drag on at time, (I actually found my self skipping over it often towards the end,) I did have an appreciation for the struggle you can see in Rachel as she comes into a new person.
My only one complaint is that I did not like the main character. I found her selfish at times and hard root for. She often become so self absorbed that I felt sorry for other characters that she interacted with. In a way it reminded me of EAT LOVE PRAY. a story of a women drowning in resent and what ifs? So she sheds all that she has been to discover some sort of new happiness.
I enjoyed this book as it was a fun and light easy read. I found it predictable towards the end and actually wish for more then what i as the reader was left with. But I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for an easy, warm hearted read.
It started out good enough and then it just started dragging out with long descriptions and explanations of events unrelated to a good story.
The year of her life dragged by in very boring, nondescript scenes.
The end is even lousier than the story, complete abrupt non-related end.
I really liked the idea for the book, it just could have been written with about 50 less pages.
Should you read this book? If you want an easy, light-hearted, and romantic-ish novel, then yeah, go for it.

This book was strange. The plot was weak to begin with, but the strange and horribly long winded descriptions of the Irish points of interest made it almost unreadable. Read morePublished on August 15, 2012 by RedFish
