Finally, a book that makes it clear that diversity is God’s idea, and walks us through how to make God’s idea our very own. This book is thoughtful, informative and enlightening. If we embrace its concepts we will move the needle of race and racism forward by a significant amount!

Unfractured – a Christ-centered Action Plan for Cultural Change remains true to its title. Author and Diversity Consultant, Skot Welch conveys God’s heart for His church and sets forth a plan, framed in scripture, to work toward racial unity. Skot exhorts the global church, and specifically, Christ followers in the U.S. to be Christ-centered in our thinking and our actions (Christocentricity). If our decisions and actions truly reflect the heart of Christ, the walls of racial division can be torn down, and we can move toward conversation, understanding, forgiveness, healing, and ultimately unity in Christ. Within the pages of his book, Welch confronts the sins of religiosity and racism, he examines “Black Culture” and unveils “White Culture”, then he reminds us “diversity was, is, and will forever be God’s heart.” In Chapter Six - Overcoming Disunity, Welch shares a personal story regarding slavery that shocked me (and him, to be sure). Chapters Eight through Thirteen are where the rubber meets the road. Americans of European descent are challenged to defy the idols of ”White privilege” and superiority, and Americans of African descent are challenged to abandon the idol of “Black inferiority.” I especially liked Chapters Ten and Eleven, they offer practical steps toward understanding one another and unity. We need to: be vulnerable with one another; be willing to talk even though it’s uncomfortable; get close enough to appreciate the value and beauty of one another’s story. I’m grateful Skot takes time to walk through the true and tragic history of the Native Americans and Chinese Americans. Finally, in Chapters Twelve and Thirteen, the author gives us our homework—the Change Sequence, the steps we need to go through to effect change in the area of unity and healing: 1). “Recognize;” 2). “Repent;” 3). “Redefine;” Every Christ follower should read Unfractured and do the good work of loving our neighbors well.

Skot brings a lifetime of wisdom to the subject of race and the church. It’s way more than “what went wrong?” Skot presents a number of great, thoughtful, grace-filled options to address a problem every serious follower of Jesus knows exists, but does not know where to begin. Start with the Bible and Unfractured!

An excellent book! Skot addresses a sensitive and challenging topic in a compelling and thoughtful way. This book is extremely well written and well thought out and Skot’s is able to articulate his message in a way that is easy to follow and comprehend. As a Christian, this book particularly resonated with me, but I would recommend it to anyone – Christians and non-Christians alike. The concepts in this book can help all of us rethink how we approach race and diversity in our communities. A must read! Highly recommend it!!

This is such an important book for our world today! Unfractured is the first book to wholly shed light on the artificially created fractures of Gods people. The true joy of this book is that it then provides recourses and a step by step blueprint to unity.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that has ever had the Christian experience, it will give you much clarity on how we got here and were we need to go.
