All USA, International, and Canada Channels

The MHS75 covers all USA, International, and Canadian marine channels, keeping you up-to-date with all the latest marine activity.

All NOAA Weather Channels with Weather Alert

This radio comes preprogrammed with NOAA weather channels. The Emergency/Weather Alert allows it to function as a severe weather warning radio and will also alert you to any local or national emergencies. If the NOAA issues warning while this feature is turned On, the radio sounds an alert tone. You will then hear the emergency/weather broadcast.

Instant Channel 16/9/Triple Watch

Triple Watch mode monitors channels 16 and 9 for a signal while you listen to the currently selected channel. The marine radio checks channel 16 and 9 for activity every 2 seconds.

Dual, Triple, Quad Watch Operation

These different watch modes let you monitor up to two Coast Guard Distress/Hailing channels and one weather channel along with one regular marine channel.

Memory Channel Scan

Automatically scan your programmed channels with Memory Channel Scan. Scanning starts from the lowest to highest channel and stops when it finds an active channel. It remains on that channel until the transmission ends, then resumes scanning after a two-second delay period.

Clip-On DC Charger

The MHS75 ships with a rapid clip-on DC charger. Charge in any standard 12 volt DC "cigarette lighter" style outlet.

If you find yourself far away from other stations and have trouble getting a response, you may need to boost the transmission power from 1 Watt to 2.5 Watts or 5 Watts

This radio was bought on Amazon in July 2011. Excellent power over 15 miles of Lake Superior. (to boat with high antenna). This is outstanding for a hand held set! First problem was a month after receiving the set. The 12 V charger attachment broke off one side where it clips on the radio. In Jan 2012 the battery clip that holds the battery in place fell off and could not be re clipped (broke). The plastic attachments are very stiff and broke off without undue pressure. Shame, as other wise good UNIDEN radio.

I've owned several Uniden radios over the years. They are always well built, reliable and work. This radio is no exception. It is clear on broadcast and receive at all 3 wattage settings. Even in congested radio traffic areas, the battery will 8 hours daily over 2-3 days on a charge (mostly receive). In noisy, windy, etc environments you want to keep it around your chest. My minor nitpicks is that when the radio is turned of it doesn't retain the last settings for scan mode, etc, but it just takes a few seconds to set it up. Get an AC - 12v adapter ($5-$10) so that you can charge it off a wall.

The Uniden MHS75 is waterproof and submersible to 5 ft. as advertised. However they also advertise a floatable design which might lead you to believe the radio floats. It does not! Be sure to attach a short 2 inch section of pool noodle or similar float to the included wrist strap before clipping it to you belt. If it does fall into the water you will be able to retrieve it without diving to the bottom. The radio has great transmitting power, 5 watts or 1 watt switchable, and crystal clear reception. If you are a boater you should not leave the dock without one. The Quad watch feature makes the radio especially useful as you can monitor 4 frequencies at once. The VHF channel you are using, Ch.16 which is mandatory for boats underway, Ch. 9 another frequently used non commercial calling channel, and a weather alert channel so you won't miss a hazardous weather advisory. This leaves you free to pilot your boat safely without having to constantly fool with the radio. I purchased a 110v ac/12v dc adapter from amazon for a little over $2.00 w/500ma output and it fully charges the battery which is shipped uncharged in a little less than 4 hrs. Recharging after each use should be less than 2 hrs. This inexpensive accessory will allow you to charge the radio when you are not aboard your boat, or keep you radio charged if you don't have a 12v outlet on your boat. Fully charged the radio will transmit over 3 hrs. and monitor traffic for a week. The rechargeable battery also holds its charge with the radio turned off for a very long time. I have left this radio sitting unused on my bureau for months during the summer when it is just too hot to take the boat out and the battery indicator has never dropped below full.
All of my other rechargeable batteries need an occasional charge to keep them full. Not this one. I am really impressed. This little waterproof handheld VHF marine radio is everything a recreational boater should need to boat safely. Happy Boating.

I coach novice rowers, and I have to be able to communicate with the other coaches while we are out in safety launches. This unit is far superior to the more expensive radios our club had purchased for this purpose; it gives me greater range and much better sound quality. My peers covet my radio, and I have been sending them to Amazon to purchase this radio for themselves.

At this point, all the reviews for the Atlantis 270 are actually for the 250, so be careful! I've had a 250 for a while, 5 to 7 years, in addition the sail training program I am affiliated with uses them for the instructors. We've easily had 10 over the last few years. These are good reliable radios. They will last with a reasonable amount of care. The program amounts to "industrial" use, 8 hours a day, M-F, Wednesday night and Saturday races and occasional Sunday events easily 40 to 60 hours of use each week! The majority still work, and our instructors are not easy on them, they are dropped, kicked and thrown. I use mine on my 28 foot sail boat, and when rowing to the mooring, contacting bridges, shore facilities etc. My first hand held was twice as expensive and lasted 1 season. This is going 7 years and still works great

This radio works very well. I was able to transmit over a good distance, is clear and understandable. The weather radio section has a weather alarm which is quite loud and worked well during the last tornado watch. The speaker is usually fine but not loud enough to be heard well when there s a lot of engine noise. It only has a 12 v DC charger, but I purchased an AC adapter. I now prefer charging the unit in the car while driving to the boat.

First off, Amazon for some reason has 2 different radios under the same listing. There is the Atlantis 250, and the Atlantis 270 listed under the same listing, but different "styles." I have the 270 which is submersible and has a 6 watt button. The 250 is not submersible. In my opinion, these radios should have completely separate listings.

Now on to my actual review: I have only had to use it once, but it worked well. I mainly boat in a bay that is only 2 miles wide and about 6 miles long in Lake Erie. The local coast guard station is at one end of the bay. I have no trouble hearing what people are saying within the bay, and I can even hear a lot of stuff that goes on out in the lake. This radio doesn't have incredible range, but I knew that buying it, and it works for my needs. Just make sure you transmit using the 6 watt button when making a distress call. If you want/need a really long range radio, you will have to upgrade to a mountable model. This has just about the best range I have seen on a hand-held model. I like how I can monitor 3 channels at once: 9, 16, and one of my choice. You can also have automatic weather alert announcements, although the "alarm" tone it emits before the alert has scared the bejesis out of me on more than one occasion. Overall, it is pretty simple to use. Just use a short press on the buttons for the primary use, and a long press for the secondary functions. The radio will always beep the confirm that either the long or short button press has been accepted.

I did have to send it back to Uniden to get repaired after about 2 months of use though. I would press the power button, and it would blink on and off very quickly, and that was it.
