Catherine DeLong loses her husband in a car accident, or was it? Her Life turns upside down, and she is driven to escape the constant reminder of that tragedy. She leaves New York City seeking a quieter existence on a small horse ranch in northern Florida. After establishing her new life Catherine encounters challenges and surprises that she could never have anticipated. Slowly, she realizes that the married life she had in the city was not what she thought it had been.
Zane Wheeler retires from the tumultuous life of a CIA Operative and wants to return to the simple life of his youth, surrounded by horses and wide-open spaces. As Mrs. McLendon weaves deeper into the storyline, Catherine and Zane develop a platonic relationship. Trust, empathy and respect drive them closer to each other. Is Zane the one man whom she can trust?
This character-driven story presents vivid-lifelike characters, each with a clear personality and agenda. We watch as the characters evolve and grow throughout the storyline. This is a fun read, full of suspense, drama and physical danger.
Five Stars for Linda McLendon.
Fully developed characters, seemingly unconnected, come together in a story about life's disappointments, discovering what's important, and how to embrace change, and overcome fears, to heal and achieve what is important and worthwhile!
The story takes place in several Florida locations, recalls 'old Florida' and incorporates rural life in today's Florida.
I look forward to the next installment; the beautifully descriptive landscape and the compelling characters who have so much more to reveal!
Bravo! Tremendous achievement for the first time author.
The author does a great job in understanding human emotions and why we do the crazy things we do at times. It reminds me of trying not to judge someone until you really live in their shoes. Even Buck who at times I wanted to hit, has a side of him that is lovable. And of course, who wouldn't want a Zane in their life...though I am sure he too has flaws which will probably come out in book two!
A terrific tale of love, comedy and suspense. Can't wait for book two!
One small quibble, and I admit this is personal. "To be continued" at the end of the book isn't necessary. Let it stand alone, it can and it should. And when, or if, it is continued, it will be obvious to the reader that their favorite characters are back.
