The M48 Kommando Tactical Survival Hammer from United Cutlery is the perfect companion for hiking and camping. With a 37 3/8-Inch overall length, it's great as a walking staff while camping. The cast 2Cr13 stainless steel, black oxide-coated head can pummel almost anything with ease. The cane handle features a defensive war hammer head and a curved back spike, which offers great applications as an effective breaching tool and defensive hammer in addition to being a fully functional walking cane. The 30-Percent fiberglass handle is nearly indestructible and the axe head is attached to it with metal bolts. Includes a rubber toe on the end of the cane.

It's very resilient - I have drove it into the soft ground countless times, played rock hockey, broke branches and wood straight in half for fires, and broke apart wooden furniture for recycle. It lasted me for 3 years and still held it's sharp teeth. However...
It is currently advertised to be "Near indestructible". You must take this phrase very literally. Near indestructible would be great for low stress use and easy daily walking and what not. It will last more than a life time if you only use it for posing, cosplay, or photos (It's still a weapon, so be careful around public places). But the problem comes in at the "Near". Just 30 minutes ago, I was bashing apart the bottom support for a very strong table made with very thick and dense wood for recycle. Normal tools wouldn't get the job done and my father has taken the sledge hammer out with him on a fossil hunting expedition. So... I figured... Lets try this thing! See what It's capable of! Super strong material vs. Super strong tools!
Well, if you haven't seen the picture, look at it now. After breaking the table structure halfway apart, I took a strong, hefty swing at a length of wood, thinking I could dislodge it and free up some wiggle room to pull it out. When it struck the plank, the head came flying off, and it barley made a dent in the wood. Now, I will take responsibility for a foolish and unplanned attack, but it came off really hard. The vibrations shot through me like rifle recoil. I consider myself lucky the head went opposite of me. After a few inappropriate words and confused stammering, I came to the conclusion that I had found it's limits. I finished the deconstruction with the walking axe made from the same guys with no issue.
Long story short, Don't use it for a sledge hammer and hit things as macho as you can. Keep it for trails and breaking down soft, dry wood for fires, and if really needed, self defense. I have no doubt it could sever a limb if hit hard enough, along side breaking bones easily. If you treat it kind, it will give kind in terms of longevity and use.
I will be buying another very soon. This time, I know it's limits, and now you do too!
Finally today I decided to write a review because I went on a bear hunt (failed) but still one huge hike in some wet grass and rocks up a steep hill. Normally I keep my balance and catch myself easily when I do occasionally slip. I started to slip down that terrain and am sure I would have broke some bones if not for being able to use this like a ice pick and catch myself with it.
The only complaint I would have about this product would be that since ordering it it's handle has always been a tiny bit banana'd just curving some. But it is a long handle so that's half expected, and it has not bent any more under the stress of me being 170 lb and wearing a 20-30 lb pack depending on the trip. It's handle is very strong and durable and I doubt it will ever break unless you really really ham on it trying to use it as a wedge. I have done that minorly and its held up and stayed in shape as of yet.
I was able to cut the shaft to length, and screw the rubber end back on.
I slipped a rubber cane end onto the rubber end, and this has become my tactical self defense cane.
It also works on gophers.
I will start out by saying the quality of this is of the highest caliber for the price. Well made, attention to detail, and good quality control based on my item.
The only thing I suggest people beware of, it's pretty heavy. I am 6 foot and 210 pounds, I can easily use it for a cane and feel totally secure in it supporting my weight. However, if you are shorter than I, it would be more a walking staff for balance. So if you need it to support your weight, you would have to be at least my height to be able to lock your elbow and use it for support, and for this, it works really well. As far as using it for a weapon for defense, you would have to be choked up beyond half way to use it one handed, or be swinging it with two hands. Even then if you are more elderly like myself at 64, one handed swinging might prove difficult.
I am extremely happy with the purchase, and would feel good about recommending it.
