I'm an IT guy and this gadget comes in really handy all the time. I use one to give my hyper-v virtual PC at home a dedicated network link and I keep the other one in my backpack so I always have one with me. You wouldn't believe how often it is useful. If you have a wifi-tablet (windows tabs for example) that don't have a wired Ethernet port, this is a must-have accessory. Doing big file copies over wi-fi is slow and lets say you want to quickly join a tab to a business domain, well its a whole lot more simple just to plug this in over USB and get on the network that way. The quality is good, the performance is great, and its super convenient. The price isn't bad either. I highly recommend.

Connects a NAS drive to a USB port

I originally bought this adapter in the hope that it would allow me to attach my Ethernet WD MyBookLive to the USB port on a new WD MyCloud. It did not work for that purpose, but I am not deducting any stars because the problem was that the MyCloud does not support the attachment of a chained NAS drive. However, I was able to use this adapter to connect the MyBookLive to the USB 3.0 port on the computer itself, and it works just fine in tandem with the MyCloud. I had also contacted the manufacturer for technical support in connection with the above problem and got a very prompt reply by email, so that was another plus.

Customer service has been very good at reaching out to help but I no longer have the item. It was mentioned to me by a friend that I could have gone to their website and downloaded the most recent driver for my Mac but no where on the slip of paper that is the instruction manual does it say this. That would be very helpful information since OSs are constantly being updated. So maybe it does work with a Macbook Air but it didn't right out if the box.

The only drawback is that unlike a regular Ethernet jack, it doesn't lock into place in your computer, so be mindful that you don't accidentally pull the adapter out of the USB port.
