While it may sound a bit "fiddly" to have to adjust the two little prongs so that they make contact with the battery terminals, it's simpler in practice. The springy prongs, combined with the silicone grip pads on the clip itself, make for very sure contact--and when they ARE making contact, the bright green LED lets you know it! No worries about polarity; The clip automatically detects positive and negative for you. A bright red LED indicates charging: When it goes out, your battery has a full charge.
The folding USB connector makes the PPUCLIP very compact--smaller than most travel chargers--and there's no cords or cables to get tangled. It works with all "flat-pack" 3.7v Li-ion batteries, from cameras, camcorders, cell phones, PDAs, whatever!
Best of all, the PPUCLIP eliminates down-time when used with a spare battery. I keep one in the charger and just swap them out as needed!
I have successfully charged my Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5 batteries with it as well as my water proof canon camera, the name escapes me right now.
There are two prongs that are L shaped which you adjust to make contact with the batteries + and - terminals.
Then you flip down the usb plug and gently squeeze open the clip to hold the battery in place.
When you have the prongs aligned correctly a little green light comes on.
Then when you put the charger into a usb port a red light will come on next to the green one and the red light will slowly go out when the battery is charged up.
It takes a bit longer to charge up the battery then the original battery wall charger but it works great.
Update:
I have been able to charge my camera battery with this charger exactly twice, and now I cannot get the green "connection OK" light, so I assume the device is dead. I also observe that it's possible to put the battery in backwards, with the opposite contacts in touch with the charger's contacts, so who knows, maybe I killed it inadvertently, because it's not clear which way is the right way. In any case, the result is the same: Deadness. It's within the 1 year warranty period, so I will attempt to obtain a refund. I would not recommend this charger. I try to be very careful of my things, so I don't think the reason that it died is because I abused it.
