I am an avacado fan. So, when I came across this tool, I thought, "aha... something to save me time in the kitchen". Well, that's only partially true.

If I have an avacado the same width as the avacado slicer, then all is right with the world. A simple motion of pressing into the avacado half and pulling towards me, and I end up with evenly spaced slices. What could be simpler or quicker!

Alas, there is a downside. If your avacado is smaller in width than the slicer, your in for a messy situation. The slicer no longer slides through the avacado, it gets caught on the tough skin (it is wider than the avacado in this situation) and the once even slices are now mashed and part of the avacado peel sticks to the slicer. I spent more time cleaning up after the slicer and my slices were no longer uniform. In this case, I would have been better off using my knife.

For anyone who eats avocados, this is a must have! I've never had problems with mine, no matter what the size of the avocado. It's easy to use, and avocados are pliable enough that I've always managed to make the slicer fit within the avocado. This tool is such a timesaver and makes such neat little slices that are handy for anything.

I use this thing anytime I want to make guacamole and it's great! I totally disagree w/ the other review. All it takes is a little practice and you can clean out the inside of the skin easily. It takes about 1/4 of the time it takes to physically peal the skin off after quartering it w/ a knife (and that's if the skin's not flaking off!) Between this and a food chopper, you can make great guacamole in 10 minutes.

It's also fairly simple to clean as well. I just run it under hot water for a minute and that pretty much gets it all off. Just make sure you do it right after using it. Then stick it in the washer, or if you hand wash, use a brush. No biggie.

I'm not usually big on specialized gadgets, but for as often as I eat avocados, this is more than worth the $$.

This works well under the right conditions - medium-sized avocados and larger, and medium hardness or softer. For this reason, I recommend buying it if you eat avocados more than occasionally.

However, it claims to be dishwasher safe, but I put it in the dishwasher after the first few uses and noticed what looked like rust on the outer edge where the wire wraps around the rim. After noticing this, I started washing by hand and the problem has gone away. It's a little awkward to wash by hand and tears up sponges if you're not careful, but this is a minor complaint and only removes 1 star from the rating.

Great product that I'm very happy with. I can now make my wraps with avocados that uniformly sliced, quickly and easily. The clean-up of the tool is quick and easy as long as you rinse it immediately after you use it. I would definitely recommend this well-built and sturdy product if you like avocados.

One of the few kitchen gadgets I really like. Replacing my first one which broke a wire when trying to slice an avocado that wasn't ripe enough, so be careful there. Otherwise, perfect for sushi slices or salads. Disigned for Haas avocados, which are the ones you want to use anyhow.

I was one of those people who would score the avocado then turn it inside out and scrape. Till one day I broke down and bought this Progressive tool. So glad I did!

This is so much easier to use and I get more avocado meat this way. I squeeze the peel against the slicer as it cuts to make sure there is no meat left inside. Then I add the slices to my food as clean and even as a restaurant would.

Every time I use it I rinse it with water and wait to clean it later. I hand wash it and it gets visually clean from rinsing in running water. Sometimes I use a brush to get anything dried but all in all this is super easy to clean. Nothing is discolored yet after months of use. So this seems like it will last for some time. Yummy.

This works, but in most cases it is more trouble than using a knife. Unless you have some reason to actually want to use it for the fancy wave cuts. It is very difficult to clean, especially at the part where the wires fan out from. It also tends to either leave too much avocado behind attached to the skin, unless you really make an effort to force it along the skin, and then sometimes you end up with bits of skin attached.
