Thank you for sharing this important topic and shining a light on the real struggles and obstacles college students face.
At first, I was sure it was my diet, or working out too hard, then maybe low testosterone. I did eventually get diagnosed with hypothyroidism (which explained my crazy fatigue), but even with the medication I was provided, I was still having these low feelings (dragging, uninterested, blah) - the type of feeling where, “I’d rather just start my bedtime routine early simply to avoid doing anything,” type feelings.
In my search for solutions, I came across Mr. Sculley’s book “Unlearn the Lies,” and read it cover-to-cover in a single sitting -
Sculley does an incredible job of not only distilling down his own battle with depression into a relatable experience, but also includes a myriad of testimonies from a cross section of individuals battling their own bouts.
This book is a great starting point for those on the fence about what they’re dealing with, a solid support for discerning your own variant of this crippling mental state, and a guide for those that need actionable wisdom for NOW, and for the future.
Writers that dare to venture into the depths of their hearts, like Mr. Sculley, know what they’re talking about. The truth of his experience with depression, and all that comes along with it, was felt from the time I read the preface, and every page thereafter.
For your courage, Mr. Sculley, I thank you for giving us the truth about such taboo topics; helping us to grab a firmer understanding of not just some “unnamed ghost” that haunts us all in one form or another... but helping us unlearn the tainted perspectives and lies it has fed us all.
The book is a MUST-READ AND RE-READ. I, myself, am on my second read through, and I can’t wait to uncover more depths and meanings applicable to my own life.
