To say that I enjoyed this book would be an understatement! The "zombie" genre is really big right now and this book and it's characters are a breath of fresh air. The mix of action/terror and humor made this book an entertaining read from start to finish. The thought process that the author brought to the book was refreshing.

There are a couple of typo's in the book but they do not in anyway take away from the story. I will say one thing for this book, the use of filler is almost nonexistent and that makes for a fast and entertaining read.I am very much looking forward to book two of the Voodoo Plague series.

If you even have a passing interest in the "zombie" genre, buy this book. I think that you will enjoy it as much as I did.

I hate zombies, they are not my thing by any stretch. I picked this up as a free special thinking it was voodoo related, a topic I'm very interested in. It happened to have downloaded to my new Voyage, which has little on it at the moment, so I started reading it while trying out the Voyage to compare it to my old Kindle. Within about 10 minutes I was wrapped up in the story and couldn't put it down. Crime mysteries are my standard fare, which are typically action based. I think that's why I was able to get past the "infected." That and my mind had the ability to control how scary looking they are in my head. I can't watch The Walking Dead with my eyes open for very long. This really, really is not my type of genre.

The book opens with a modern day (apocalyptic) damsel in distress. However, she's only in distress due to circumstances and we soon learn she's quite capable of holding her own. The feminists won't like this, but even the strong, independent Princess is happy to have Prince Charming along as long as he's useful. John Chase is certainly that. He's former military, highly trained and excellent with a gun and knives. Rachel, the damsel, is a med student who is an exotic dancer on the side to pay for her tuition. She's very intelligent, learns quickly and obviously has medical training. The two of them go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Along the way they find Dog who becomes just as much a central character as the two of them and it's quite impressive how well the author is able to do that. Dog's personality shines through and you quickly fall in love with him.

Few authors are able to move the story along without a lot of dialogue without bogging down everything in descriptions that are superfluous. Mr.

OK, our hero is a former SF guy, the heroine is a stripper with a heart of gold and is a third year medical student. They meet zombies and ill-intentioned red necks. What's not to love? There is lots of action in cars, boats and on foot while trying to make it to our hero's wife way out west. This isn't the tale of two cities, but it's fun. If you've been to or live in Atlanta, bits of this will ring true. That's just icing on the cake. This really could be set in Anywhereopolis with no ill effect.

Not since Rhiannon Frater's End of the World series have I been so engrossed in an apocalypse novel. Mr. Patton has a huge gift.
His character development makes me wish these people lived next door to me. It was so easy to become invested in their lives.
I enjoyed his terrifying twist about the superiority of the female zombies. As an animal lover, I was thrilled that he added the story of Dog. As a Navy brat, I was able to recommend this book to my dad-not just because it is an excellent story but because throwing in information about firearms, survivalist gear, etc. makes this book a good read for so many diverse groups of readers. I am so anxiously awaiting the sequel and I hope that Mr. Patton happens to read this so that he knows how brilliant he is.
Regards, Kelley Young

The story line is good and I did enjoy reading it. There is I major flaw for me. (others may not mind this) The main character is a rambo type that almost never misses a shot and is very self important.
There is an interesting new twist on the zombies that works very well.
I prefer reading about real world people trying to survive, people like those next door or coworkers. Rambo type people are few and far between in real life so I don't relate to them much. In a real life situation, there would be far more average people trying to survive.
For those who like the tough guy main character I think you will enjoy this book.

I read a lot of kindle books and don't do as many reviews as I should but I have to put in my 2 cents here. First off the book seems be written by a young lad fresh into puberty, as one of the main characters is of course a stripper who can not keep her cloths on. The sexual assault she just shrugs off, the military training and weapon and vehicle info the writer didn't look into. If that stuff is your thing this books for you.

Although I just couldn't bring myself to finish this one (read up until 89%), there is a lot of potential here. Writing in first person is a tough task to pull off, and this author was having some trouble with it. The plot itself though was enough to keep me reading. The main character is like-able guy for the most part... his sidekick not so much. Character development was there but I found that aspect to be a bit boring.

When the author switched to third person writing... the read got better... sort of. It's a great civilian effort at trying to write about the military but was completely off. The roles and lingo just didn't match. Definitely needs a few military guys to do a run through on how real soldiers and airmen would speak. I think the writer meant to speak about the M240 bravo vs. the 'belt-fed M204 7.62' weapon.

I won't be continuing on with this series, I don't feel the realism element (even though it is TEOTWAWKI) that some of the other reviewers saw. But I think a lot of people might enjoy this read, and with Prime Library, it's worth the rental.
