A rating of 4/5 was given for two reasons; (1) several plot developments were quite predictable, and (2) there were a few too many typos, especially once I saw the number of proofreaders in the Acknowledgement section.
I will recommend this book to my friends with a taste for this genre of books.
NOTE to (Indie) author(s) on proofing: here is a laborious tip I learned as a past professional scientific writer and currently use as the sole editor & proofreader for my spouse’s hobby of writing light fiction. We self-publish 250-300 page books for friends and family; no selling or ebooks. A Printing Company literally prints exactly what is sent to them electronically.
So here’s the tip: get a hard copy of the ‘final’ proof, then literally read the book out loud to each other, with one person reading from the book hard copy to the other person following on the computer copy. Even after proofing ‘ad nauseam’ before it is sent to the Printer, you will be amazed at how many omitted small adjectives (e.g. ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘of’, etc.), tense & punctuation errors, and other small errors (e.g. to/too, weather/whether, etc.) you’ll pick up with this extra step. We average 25-30 errors per book with this technique, even though we were positive the copy sent to the Printer was perfect. [we’ve asked our small readership to pls report any typos/errors, and after three books, no errors have been found or noticed!]
Note PS - with the first book, my spouse resisted this ‘boring’ task, thinking it a total waste of time . . . . until we found the first 5-10 errors not too far into the book; now it’s just part of the process.
I am happy that I chose to read this novel a new type of genre I have not been exposed before.
I heard that normally apocalyptic novels consist of zombies, villains and unbelievable fantasy. In this novel there is no such thing.
A believable prophesy well structured and lucidly told.
This is the story of human survival after the impact event of a burst of cloud,
named “Shroud” destroying the earth.
The survivors, four women and one man, who predicted this event which has been poo-pooed
by the arrogant authorities managed to live in an isolation for 10 years.
When they thought they could rebuild the earth once again,
they were told that a new threat in the form of increased level of carbon dioxide is in sight..
From extreme cold to extreme heat, the earth is threatened once again.
A sequel in the offing.
I am already sold on that
