By: Nikki Lynn Barrett
5 out of 5 stars
The story So Unlike Me (Winning Your Heart Book 1) by Nikki Lynn Barrett is a contemporary romantic comedy. This is the story of twin sisters Lizette and Nola and the entertaining situation that happens when Lizette decides to pretend to be Nola and take a vacation that Nola won. While there shouldn’t have been anything to worry about everything changes when Lizette meets Nola’s childhood best friend Dirk Ramsey. This begins a story that had me hooked and I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished the last page. This is the second book that I have read by the author and I enjoy the way she writes and the characters she creates. This story has scenes in it that had my jaw dropping wondering just what was going on. There are others that had me concerned for both Lizette and Nola. There is a wide range of characters to this story and I enjoyed reading about them. There are those who are only out for themselves and this shows through their actions. Lizette is the character that I truly loved. She deserves to be happy and as I was reading always hoped that she and Dirk would find themselves together. This book is a wonderful way to start a series and I can’t wait to read the next one.
Nola and Dirk were best friends when they were younger, but Lizette has problems fitting in, so Dirk never really had a good opinion of her. Lizette posing as Nola captures his attention/interest. There is a little mystery as well as a blossoming romance in this story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book and even purchased it!
I loved the fun plotline of this book - the diferences between the twin sisters Lizette and Nola add a bit to their connection. Dirk was an intriquing character in his own right and I couldn't wait to see how this would all play out.
Nikki Lynn Barrett sucked me in to the story with the promise of an adventure - what else could come from the ol twin switcheroo - and delivered that and so much more. I loved the little misunderstandings that altered the story - like planning an international Paris trip to discovering you are instead going to small town Paris, TN.
So Unlike Me isn't a long story, but it defintely wasn't boring. With feisty characters who make you question things about them and a few other twists and turns, this book is one to keep you on your toes. make you laugh, and suck you into the emotions of all the characters involved.
Dirk Ramsey is helping out his Uncle Max try and get some tourism into Paris, Tenessee by helping sponsor a contest. When he discovers that one of the winners is his high school best friend, Nola Monroe, he is excited to catch up.
But as Lizette pretends to be Nola she develops feelings for Dirk and what will happen when he discovers the truth? How far will their charade go when Nola is at home pretending to be Lizette?
This was such a great switcheroo book!!
There was so much happening in this book and still so much more to come that I was engaged in the book from start to finish and I can't wait to read the next books that will be coming in the series!
I thought Lizette was a wonderful character as she has definitely been through a lot in her life with trying to fit in and then trying to get through everything after her parents died and her relationship with Chip ended. I'd still like to know more about her relationship with Chip as it obviously ended due to the prenup that he wouldn't sign. I really felt bad for Lizette in that she felt she had to help Nola but was at such odds when she started developing feelings for Dirk but knew that he wouldn't feel the same if he knew who she really was. She wanted to tell the truth but Nola really didn't want anyone to know what she was going through.
I did feel bad for Dirk with Lizette and Nola tricking him. He was falling for Lizette but would definitely not have been so open with her had he known that she wasn't Nola all along. He was super protective of her and I love how he defended their relationship as they were long time friends. I completely understand why he was so hurt when he learned the truth yet he was having trouble sorting out his own feelings.
I really didn't like how Lizette was treated by the other women in the book just because she had money. They felt like she was to blame for everything and never got to know her before judging her. I'm super interested in the next book and can't wait to learn more about Chip and see what happens with Nola getting over her own demons!
