The first half of the book is not of much interest in terms of his politics, but it is an interesting, even sometimes funny, look into the lives of the twin boys as they grew up in, essentially, a home run by a single mother who was determined to see that her sons had a better life than did she. Such was the goal of the author’s mother, just as it was for my parents.
Beginning in Part 2, the orientation of the book is much more towards improved governing and a greater country. I found much of his discussion from this point forward is of more value and does convey thoughts and a philosophy that I would respect, even expect, from a worthy presidential candidate.
BLUSH FACTOR: No worries here. The author is a politician who makes news WITHOUT profanities.
Although I am definitely not convinced that Julian Castro is ready to be President, I did enjoy learning of his childhood and his success in working for an improved country. To me, the real hero is his mother and his grandmother. Those two women, just as with so many other women throughout history, never did receive the appreciation from society for their contributions.
Because the author does articulate with heart his appreciation for his mother and he mother, I do recommend this book.
Four stars out of five.

As far as the book itself, there were areas that seemed to jump the timeline. Just the same, I’m glad I listened.
Beware... the first cd has pdf with pictures and must be listened to on a computer. I went straight to my car and thought I had a blank cd. The seller listened on her computer hoping it wasn’t a manufacturer issue. Together we figured out the first cd was for the computer. After that it was all good.
I would recommend this book.
