About the author

For more than 30 years Tony Robbins' passion has been helping people BREAK THROUGH and take their lives to another level—no matter how successful they already are—in the areas that matter most: their business, personal finance, intimate relationships, careers and health.
Tony Robbins has helped more than 50 million people from more than 100 countries transform their lives and their businesses through his books, audio programs, health products, live events and personal coaching. He's been fortunate enough to work with everyone from presidents of countries to some of the true legends of entertainment, sports and the business world. But his work is not limited to Fortune 500 CEOs and athletes. He has a special passion for small-business owners, parents and students.
Being the Chairman of seven privately held companies and five holding companies in diverse industries keeps him busy. Many of his companies have become brands that are leaders in their category—from the award winning Namale Resort & Spa in the Fiji Islands, to Twinlab and Metabolife in the sports nutrition field, to the Anthony Robbins brand in personal and professional improvement.
Most of Tony's core strategies for creating breakthroughs have come from his work with some of the biggest names in the business world: He's had the privilege of modeling and distilling the strategies of leaders in some of the fastest-growing companies in the world. He's used these distinctions to help optimize and grow enterprises to new and more profitable levels.
One of the things Tony is most proud of is his humanitarian work through the non-profit Anthony Robbins Foundation. He's always believed that if we're blessed enough to have insight and economic opportunities, then we're also blessed enough to be able to give back. To those who much has been given, much is expected. Tony Robbins is extremely blessed to be able to feed more than two million people in 56 countries every year through his International Basket Brigade.

I've already began using many of the tools in this book in my life. I have assisted my friend with overcoming stage fright by using my skills in "anchoring," as well as I have learned how to build rapport easily by "mirroring" and "matching" the people I speak with. Because of Tony, I have been able to achieve high scores in my metrics at my job. I honestly wouldn't have been able to do it without the tools I have learned from this book. I didn't know I was overachieving at work until my supervisor sat down with me and informed me. I am proud of how far I have came because of reading.
Tony Robbins is a master of personal achievement and has worked with people through his books, seminars, and his audio recordings.
This book is a guidebook for you to become conscious for the habits you've been doing your whole life. This book allows you to obtain awareness of your patterns and behaviors and how to change them quickly so you can obtain instant results.
The book begins with the importance of recognizing your state of mind and how it influences your actions. Although you behave differently in different moods, Tony emphasizes that you are the same person and any state of mind that doesn't enable you to act your best is paralyzing. A popular example that Tony Robbins uses in his seminars would be his fire walk. Several people paralyze in fear before walking on fire, however, he proves that with a "resourceful" state of mind, anyone can do it. Being in a resourceful state affects the body physiologically causing an individual to perform better.
Tony then describes "beliefs" and how it could limit us or allow us to achieve more. He describes, "Beliefs are like commanders of the brain. When we congruently believe something is true, it is liking delivering a command to our brain as to how to represent what is occurring." (p. 54) Belief is a powerful tool that allows us to take action that can cause us to create desired outcomes. Our beliefs come from our environment, events, knowledge, past results, and from creating in our own mind what we desire in our future. Whatever we believe is our reality. He helps determine what beliefs are limiting and what beliefs are empowering.
Tony then provides information on how to master the mind by utilizing Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This is done by combining visual, auditory, kinesthetic activities. He gives examples on how to recognize these three categories within conversations.
In part 2 of Tony Robbin's book, he gives instructions on how to formulate your outcomes. The steps are found below:
1. State your outcome in positive terms.
2. Be as specific as possible.
3. Have an evidence procedure.
4. Be in Control.
5. Verify that your outcome is ecologically sound and desirable.
He proceeds with asking a question that he commonly asks in his seminars, "If you knew you wouldn't fail, what would you do?" He then gives instructions on creating a list of your desires and provides exercises when it comes to reaching those outcomes and the duration of time it will take to reach those goals.
One of Tony's favorite topics is building rapport. In his next chapter, he explains how essential it is to learn how to build rapport. We typically like people that are like us. When utilizing the skills learned from NLP, building rapport can be done by, "mirroring," or "matching" a person. He explains how mirroring someone can cause you to adopt that individual's feelings.
When disagreeing with an individual, Tony provides three phrases where we can contain rapport and avoid conflict.
These phrases are:
"I appreciate and..."
"I respect and.."
"I agree and..."
The above phrases build rapport by acknowledging their thoughts without denegration or ignorance with words such as, "but" or "however."
Another crucial tool explained in the book is the power of "reframing." He explains this as an action, like a "footstep" that can give us different experiences based on the context of the action that occurred. Our framing is dependent on our past experiences. Changing our frame of reference by looking at a situation from a different point of view can result in changing the way we respond in our life. Reframing is essential because we can respond to situations appropriately.
The next tool that Tony mentions is, "Anchoring." Anchoring can be positive or negative and it occurs when a person is in an intense state where the body and mind are corresponding together from a stimulus that provides a peak of state.
The Keys to Anchoring (further explained in Tony's book)
-Intensity of the State
-Timing (Peak of Experience)
-Uniqueness of Stimulus
-Replication of Stimulus
In the final section of Tony's book, he talks about values and how it can cause failure. He then helps readers determine what their values are. Discovering values is important of one's self, and also important when working with another person. He concludes the book with challenging his readers to model excellence and produce life exactly as how it is desired and reviews the tools described throughout the book.
True to what has been stated Awaken the Giant Within makes a lot more sense after reading Unlimited Power.
Unlimited Power, in terms of content, does not differ from the works by Denis Waitley, David Schwartz, Robert Anthony, Earl Nightingale, and ,many more. Feeling down---think positive, get confident, etc. Very much the same. The difference comes with Robbins' introduction of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) which I imagine during the original publication of this book was a very foreign concept.
In a nutshell instead of dwelling on the why of feeling depressed, angry, frustrated, etc; Unlimited Power focuses on changing your 'state' to a positive one then and there. With NLP techniques this becomes possible but with much practice. A strong recommendation is that you look at these different techniques on Youtube (which didn't exist when this book was first published) to fully understand how to do certain NLP techniques. A lot of it (NLP) really does work. I'd imagine if you really want to conquer NLP then it would be beneficial to actually attend a NLP workshop in your city--that is until you see the prices!!!! Yikes!! But if you review a few or a couple of NLP techniques on Youtube (Most NLP techniques are pretty simple) and you master them then you can save yourself a few thousand dollars.
Another point that came from Unlimited Power that was surprising to me was the chapter on Energy. Basically, it talks about 'food combining'. What foods shouldn't be eaten with other food for digestion purposes. Surprisingly, by my third day of following the steps listed in this chapter I really DID find myself with more energy and waking up well before eight hours of sleep. Not that I was skeptical on this but I really did feel better.
In terms of the rest of the book, it really deals with goal setting and how to reach them. This isn't much different than what has been covered by many authors prior to Robbins especially Denis Waitley and Earl Nightingale (Nightingale was one of the first to really talk about this in The Strangest Secret). The spin I like about Robbins' method is that unlike Waitley and Nightingale who tell you to make and write out your goals; Robbins has you 'view' or picture what the outcome of your goal is going to look like first.
A good book and a definite asset to those who are looking to improve themselves and change their lives for the better.
The only question and curiosity I have is that it isn't very clear as to What Anthony Robbins actually did to turn His life around? He mentions being very young, being frustrated and wanting to make a change in his life and he does. Then he jumps to five years later to where he has money, a family and a monster of a house in Del Mar CA. I don't know him to be a businessman selling a particular product. I know he gives seminars. There seems to be a void between when he was down and out to being happy and successful.
This one is better than Awaken the Giant within By the Way. At least its more value earlier, I haven't finished it yet.
