What a great read, from the Foreword, about his inspiration for the story, The Prologue, which sets up the background for the "Big Bad", right through to the a action packed ending.
This book is about a child dying from leukemia and a stranger arrives and offers to save her, but....at what cost...?
Every parents worst nightmare, the imminent death of their child is the background.
When all hope is lost, what would you do, to save the life of your child?
The set up for the story is great, as you meet the parents and daughter in the hospital, as the doctor explains to the parents that they can do no more for the child, so they elect to take their child home.
As the illness progresses, the lethargy and sadness of the child is excellently juxtaposed with her brothers boisterous lively antics and the balancing act of the parents trying to get on with their life and mind the children equally.
The rest of the book is their descent into the hellish nightmare of what they have unleashed after accepting a stranger's help.
All the characters are well drawn and their motivations always remain true to form and this is great, because, while this is a stand-alone novel, there is a hint at the end, that there may be a sequel and I for one, want to know more about these characters and how their stories progress!
A great story, well told!
